80 Person In-Door Party Planned in house with current infection

I know this isn’t the question OP really asked but, I would consider moving out of that house as soon as possible due to differences in core values.

Yes, that’s what he should do. Tell on his roommates. That will certainly end well.

Isn’t “Me First, Me Only” an Objectivism ideal?

A few notes and one big update: I decided weeks ago that I was moving out of here after my one month trial, so I’ll be gone by Sunday.

Some steps I took today: I contacted the LA Dept. of Health, they said that because it’s an event at a private residence they don’t get involved. I then spoke to the police who said that there is nothing they would do in-advance however I could call them once the event starts and they might take action, didn’t seem to promising though. Finally, I contacted the LA Times and shared more context on the ‘spiritual mansion’ that is also home to organizers of anti-vax protests and multiple drug ODs this month. They actually took interest and may end up covering it.

But the big news is: As of a few minutes ago, the master tenant formally postponed the event and notified everyone who purchased a ticket that it would not be happening this weekend. I am very glad that common sense has prevailed. I wrote them a stern e-mail last night but was not confident that they would do the right thing.

What is a “for profit party”? Is it a fundraiser of some kind, presumably for the party-thrower?

I’m glad he at least delayed this potential disaster waiting to happen.

Yes I was trying to distinguish between an organic party thrown to spend time with friends and the event here which was a $45/person social gathering with some structured activities (yoga, cacao ceremony, a talk) happening for the sole purpose of generating income for the master tenant.

People rent mansions to through parties out here. Its a growing problem and an annoyance for neighbors.

Why are you writing emails to your roommates, instead of talking to them? Also, what the heck is a “master tenant”?

It was obvious to me just it was the one in Los Angeles.

I don’t think anything is obvious unless one gives necessary details. This is still a problem here, IMO.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone refer to Venice Beach as just Venice, but I’m not from California and haven’t lived there.

Other non-Californians – have you heard Venice Beach referred to as just Venice?

In situations where there is potential conflict, it’s good to have a (virtual) paper trail–email or text. It helps when people later deny that they said what they said. Also, it helps me remember what I said.

Just another vote for “Venice, Italy” here

Lived in Los Angeles/Orange County all my life and they are interchangeable unless one is specifically referring to the beach part of Venice Beach.

Right, the entire neighborhood is Venice, the beach is Venice Beach. Because we’re only talking about a few square miles, Angelenos use Venice and Venice Beach interchangeably.

On reflection, there is a distinction in conversation, in my experience. People talk about being “in Venice” and “at Venice Beach”. I don’t think I can recall a conversation where someone talked about “in Venice Beach” or “at Venice” (well, unless they are talking about the boulevard)

Chicagoan, and yes, but I’ve been to Venice (both of ‘em.)

This is actually not a bad idea. Also, if you can’t stop it, at least agree that all windows will be open so as to allow adequate ventilation. That way, most of the aerosols would indeed be blown out of the house within a matter of hours, and it would then just be a question of avoiding your potentially affected roommates.

I’ve heard “master tenant” used to refer to the person who rents the whole apartment/house/building from the owner and who in turn collects rent from subtenants who are renting individual smaller spaces ( such as a bedroom with use of a kitchen and bath or office space in a commercial building).

Venice is in Italy, Venice Beach is in California right below Santa Monica (which is where I typically stay when in LA), to this non-California-based American.

Venice is a neighborhood in LA, it’s not even a separate city (though it once was).

If someone talked about a party in Jamaica, who here would assume they meant Jamaica, Queens, NYC, NY?
