80's songs that make you happy

I’ll throw out:

B-52’s: Song for a Future Generation
Jane Siberry: Map of the World
Tracey Ullman’s version of : They Don’t Know About Us

They Might Be Giants “Birdhouse in Your Soul”

As a history and literary buff I always smile at the part that goes:

My favorite running songs:

Tarzan Boy from Baltimora
Let’s Go from Wang Chung
Here I Go Again from Whitesnake

Tarzan Boy reminds me that

Jane’s Getting Serious makes me smile.

Take on Me by A-ha

Everybody’s favorite

Katrina & The Waves
Walking On Sunshine

Yes, yes, and yes!

Yes, all these and Manic Monday. I know that’s also among the most-hated but I just get happy every time it’s on.

Yay Jane! There are three Maps. If you’re talking about Map of the World Part II, link.

She has a slew of fun, happy songs.

“Symmetry”

“Extra Executives” (someone set the song to scenes from American Psycho)

“Everything Reminds Me Of My Dog”

“One More Colour”

“Bound By The Beauty”

“Mimi On The Beach”

Oh, there are plenty…

‘You Made Me Realise’ by My Bloody Valentine
‘Total Trash’ by Sonic Youth.
‘Heavenly Bank Account’ by Frank Zappa
‘Kuntz’ by the Butthole Surfers
‘Terminal Preppie’ by Dead Kennedys
‘Never Understand’ by Jesus & Mary Chain
‘One Million Billionth of a Millisecond on a Sunday Morning’ by the Flaming Lips
‘When We Was Fab’ by George Harrison
‘I Lost on Jeopardy’ by Weird Al
‘Black Muddy River’ by Grateful Dead
‘In The Air Tonight’ by Phil Collins

…and many more

“Come on Eileen” gets my vote.

By Madness. I just always like it.

She-Bop

Karma Chameleon

Blondie’s “Sunday Girl” was released in 1979, but I listened to it a lot throughout the 80s, and it definitely makes me happy.

“Safety Dance,” by Men Without Hats is the one that immediately came to mind for me. Then I thought of “Just Can’t Get Enough,” by Depeche Mode.

All of them, even the really bad ones with ridiculously big hair and shoulder pads in the videos.

“Major Tom (Coming Home)” by Peter Schilling never fails to put me in a good mood. The chorus is so fun to sing along with.

All I can see is Gale Boetticher now.

Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes. There has never been a song quite like it and it conjures up the 80’s like nothing else, to me. I love songs in a minor key.

Don’t Look Back - Fine Young Cannibals. The storyline is rather depressing but it sounds so good.

I know eh.

My favourite song of all time is Bizarre Love Triangle by New Order. Never fails to make me happy.

Also:

Just Can’t Get Enough by Depeche Mode

You Lift Me Up by The Thompson Twins

You Spin Me Round by Dead or Alive
