80's songs that make you happy

I don’t really like the song or the band but Workin’ For The Weekend by Loverboy brings back some good memories. There was a rock and roll nightclub that I had a lot of good memories of. I swear every time I walked into that club, this song was playing or played pretty soon. Fun place, saw a lot of fairly big name bands there.

Ways To Be Wicked, by Lone Justice

Was Aldo Nova’s Fantasy popular outside of Canada?

Yes!

Ray Stevens, Mississippi Squirrel Revival, circa 1985.

Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), Eurythmics

And a whole lot of the other stuff mentioned in this thread. I love 80s music, from around 80 to 85 especially. End of high school and beginning of college.

Did I miss it or has Love Shack by the B52s not been mentioned yet, I skimmed through both pages and did not see it. According to Wiki, it was released in 1989.
The B-52's - Love Shack (Official Music Video) - YouTube

Sledgehammer, Peter Gabriel

For my money, “So” was far and away the best album of the 1980s. It’s one of the few cassette tapes I still have and play regularly.

Love that song!

One maybe not mentioned yet: I Can’t Hold Back, by Survivor.

The video is so very 80s. I love it.

Also by them - Wages Day (“You can have it all!”)
Real Gone Kid (“Hoo-oo hoo–oo hoo-oo!”)

Aztec Camera - Somewhere in my heart

Except that, of course, it isn’t.

I’ll go with it!

They have music from the 1980’s that isn’t 80’s music, so I’m way okay with a song from the 1990’s that really is 80’s music. Roam qualifies, I say. (Also, per Wiki, it was recorded in 1989, just not released until 1990.)

Well, “Roam” was on the album, and it was the B-side of one the US 7" singles of Love Shack, both released in the States in '89, so that’s close enough.

Quite a few happy songs that I thought of as 80’s songs were actually released in '79, but I didn’t hear of them until the rise of MTV (Rock Lobster, Turning Japanese, Cruel to Be Kind).

Just to avoid repeating others:

Rip it Up by Orange Juice
In a Big Country by Big Country
(Keep Feeling) Fasincation by the Human League
Someday, Someway by Marshall Crenshaw
Save it for Later by the English Beat

All of these by Madness:

One Step Beyond
House Of Fun
It Must Be Love

All of these by Split Enz:

Six Months In A Leaky Boat
I See Red (ENZSO version)

While not a happy song…the ENZSO version of “Stranger Than Fiction” is very moving.

Was Runnin’ With The Devil in the eighties? Part of the soundtrack to one of the best parts of my life. Can’t quite remember whether it was the late seventies or early eighties, maybe due to excessive weed consumption.

Jane Siberry was an astonishing singer until she went off the rails in the late 1990s. Is she still singing, and did she go back to using her real name?

The song for me? “Head To Toe” by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam. Yes, it’s commercialized. I like it anyway.

But it is. The first year was 1…now count those fingers.
