I have this fantasy in which I win the Best Actor Oscar, and my speech in its entirety is, “Thank you.” Then I casually stroll away.
Something like this?
Good ol’ Al. But why so wordy?!? Adding “Very much indeed.” Does he think we have all night to listen to him rattling on?
Hitchcock was probably annoyed that they never gave him a Best Director Oscar.
… or several.
Wonderful!
Except, surprisingly, she only had two flourishes. One-arm flourish, and two-arm flourish.
But what about the people who made the movie you’ve won the oscar for alongside you? Don’t they deserve a passing mention? What about your significant other? Or children? How are they going to feel if they are the only ones unmentioned?
Not that easy now, is it?
Well, a Thalberg isn’t an Oscar either, so he doesn’t even merit receiving an Honorary one.
If you dont mention* anyone* then no one will feel left out.
I’m just gonna say it: Guardians of the Galaxy was the best movie of the year.
I say that having seen and enjoyed all of the Oscar nominees, and having just re-watched Guardians.
If Guardians had been nominated, I would have had a really hard time selecting between it and The Grand Budapest Hotel as my favorite. Love them both, but I think I would have gone with Guardians. And I think these are the two movies from this year that will become cultural touchstones with the passage of time.
There, I said it.
Certainly among the most* entertaining*, yes. The Grand Budapest Hotel was the Best Picture by artistic standards.
From a production value perspective, I agree. From a storytelling perspective, not so much (IMHO).
Sure it is.
The wife and I watched Birdman this weekend. It was good. But that makes seven of the eight nominees we’ve seen, the exception being Selma, and of those seven I would have given the Best Picture Oscar to Boyhood.
