888-oops-jew

Anyone called it?

Um, huh?

Colbert Report running gag.

I think it’s 800-oops-Jew.

Nope, definitely 888 - just watched the episode.

lissener, to elaborate, it’s a number he’s giving out for Jews who’ve wronged him to call and atone for their sins and get their names in the Book of Life.

My bad.

Why just Jews?

It’s part of their religion. A big part.

Because it’s Yom Kippur this weekend.

I’ve called. It’s hilarious. After I called I felt like I should call back and atone for calling his hotline even though I wasn’t Jewish…

How do Jews feel about Colbert’s gag? Is it offensive to some. All the ones I know think it’s funny but they are all pretty lax reform Jews.

That was great- I feel better already.

Remember, press 2. (Then call again and press 1- the “away message” for the fictional 1-888-MOPS-KEY, whom Colbert supposedly had to share the number this year, is hilarious in its intentional badness. Note that the number is erroneously given as 1-800 at the selection screen. The OOPS-JEW message is the same as last year, except without Colbert’s final punchline after the legal bit: “And she’s single!”

That is hilarious! I didn’t leave a message–I’m not Jewish and it caught me off guard.

If only Christianity had a Day of Atonement…

Not being Jewish caught you off guard?

I’ll have to call this thing later. Sounds very funny!

I dunno… shouldn’t we wait for somebody to express offense before saying “it is offensive?” Jews are pretty obviously not the target of the joke.

I didn’t say it was offensive. I wondered what Jews think of it. I dunno. . . shouldn’t we wait for someone to say it is offensive before we accuse someone of saying it is offensive?

Don’t let not being Jewish stop you: Christian Day of Atonement.

It has happen before, that and the Spanish Inquisition of course.

Ed Asner called in last night. I lost it when they finished up with the I hate Spunk joke from 36 years ago. The Barry Manillow one did not seem very funny however.

Jim

That one’s on me, sorry. I read that sentence as “It is offensive,” not “Is it offensive.” Apparently my brain allows me to work at this hour, but reading the Dope is too difficult.

To show everything’s cool, have a question mark on me. It might make things easier.
