We’re halfway through this decade, the typical time for the beginning of nostalgia for the previous decade. The 90’s, the Clinton years of prosperity and apathy, have long faded and seem more distant then ever, and now it’s time for some 90’s music nostalgia. Since I was in my formative years during the mid-to-late 90’s, it has a special place in my heart. List your favorite songs here.
Mine include Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind, Runaround by Blues Traveler, anything by Hootie and the Blowfish or the Spin Doctors, and Tubthumping by Chumbawamba.
Third Eye Blind’s “Jumper,” which is immediately after “Semi-charmed Life” on their self-titled CD. The entirety of which I have memorized, because it was my favorite CD for a few years.
Too many to mention although a couple that I hear incessantly on “Leftover” lunches on alterna stations are Black Metallic and Sister Havana (also two of my fave songs ever)
I heard Last Splash by the Breeders while driving home the other day. It took me back to high school.
I still love most of the stuff from the “grunge” era.
Far Behind by Candlebox, Mr. Jones, Round here, and Einstein on the Beach by Counting Crows, Sister, I see You by Nixon’s Sister, Back and Forth by Aaliyah, Regulate by Warren G, a ton of stuff by Pearl Jam.

I’ll just second a large part of The Scrivener’s list, I love it! And I believe “Linger” is by The Cranberries not the Cardigans. Like I could remember what music I listened to in the 90’s. Let’s see, I was really into Blue’s Traveler, Spin Doctors and Phish in the early 90s…um, Nirvana was good … ahhh … I really dug the song “Lump”, and still do … REM was my favorite band after “Automatic For the People” came out…
I think part of growing up is not knowing the name of any song or group that you like. “Oh I like that song! I wonder who sings it?” is a common statement in my life now, and my wife as always been saying it. I still enjoy music, but I just don’t ever have any time for it, too much TV, internet, kids…
“Linger” by Cranberries
“Mr. Jones” by Counting Crows
“What’s Up” by 4 Non-Blondes
“Buddy Holly” by Weezer
“'Till I Hear it From You” by Gin Blossoms
“Take Me Out to the Ballgame” by Goo Goo Dolls (from a MLB commercial)
“Out of My Head” by Fastball
The term was coined in about 1982 and the “grunge era” probably ended when Nirvana put out the Nevermind album in 1991 and the whole independant/commercial thing imploded.
