99 Luftballons (new version)

I downloaded both versions of the song from iTunes and have been listening to them compulsively. I think I might have to get a couple of the albums.

I think the “denk’ an euch” in the newer version might be part of the nostalgia. On the album version, the last verse is sung with the audience (it sounds like they mixed a live version into a studio version); it gives me the impression that she’s telling her fans (or maybe just the world in general) she’s thinking of them.

Thank you Johnny L.A. for the translation (and K364 for the link). This is one of my all-time favorite songs, but I’ve only really grokked the English version until now. I love the nuances in the original German - much darker, more cynical, more revealing of selfish motives by abusers of government power.
