_vti_cnf folder... what is it?

I was working on my website the other day and I noticed that there were these folders named _vti_cnf in the website folders…
I know that when I upload my website via FTP, these _vti_cnf get uploaded as well.

What are these folders and do I need them?.. can I erase them and still make my website run?

OH yeah… just in case… I am running Win XP and using Frontpage 2002

Don’t know what they do, but they’re used by Frontpage one way or another. I’m guessing you didn’t use Frontpage to do the upload, as it doesn’t upload these folders.

I think you can delete them from your website, but Frontpage still needs them on your computer.

You need to keep them. They contain FrontPage configuration material. Deleting them may affect the way options work.

They aren’t all that big, so you might as well keep them there.

I only like to use Frontpage for editing… everything else about it kinda sucks… I like using CuteFTP pro instead so that I can use my FTP space for other stuff.

My FTP space is kinda limited that’s why I wanted to get rid of them… Is there any other program to work on webpages that doesn’t leave similar folders and junk?
