It’s incredible! But true. An Indian boy in his twelfth standard has
disproved Einstein’s “Theory of Relativity”, and has been shortlisted for the Nobel Prize !!!
Sudarshan Reddy has theoretically proven the existence of a sub-atomic particle which can travel at speeds greater than that of light, thereby challenging one of the fundamental postulates of the “Theory of Relativity”. In his recent research paper submitted to the “Institute of Advanced Physics (IAP)” at Trieste, (Italy) Sudarshan has proved the existence of a class of sub-atomic particles called ‘leptons’, which can travel faster than light. The international physics community has been shell shocked by this discovery. Dr.Massimo Martelli, President of the IAP has this to say about the paper submitted by Sudarshan : " After a long, careful and critical analysis, I can confidently say that Sudarshan 's research paper show a tremendous leap in our underderstanding of physics as his investigation mounts up on ‘leptons’. His work builds substantially on the work of Einstein and others in the Field of relativity.
When physicists from Princeton University tried to measure Sudarshan’s
IQ with an IQ-meter (at the American embassy in Delhi), the meter broke
down, simply because it was not calibrated to measure such high IQ. This was reported in ‘Times of India’(An Indian leading newspaper’). Prof.Carl Uppsala, Chairman of the Nobel sub-committee for physics has confirmed that Sudarshan has been shortlisted for the Nobel prize in physics for the year 2001.
Aw curse you, Whammo! I just got back from that very same site and was all set to be the pioneer on this thread.
I say we chuck this jayshah off the board for posting ULs in GQ.
Since we’re on the subject, there apparently is no sub-committee for physics on the Nobel Prize Committee. Here is the Straight Dope on how the Nobel Committee selects who gets the prize each year.
“Uppsala”, indeed. Hell, why not get an American physicist named Tony Sacramento in there, while we’re at it?
Leptons are a well-established family of particles comprised of the electron, muon, tau, electron neutrino, muon neutrino, and tau neutrino. They are one of the two types of fundamental constituents of matter (the other being quarks). They have been known for many years and travel slower than the speed of light.
Are IQ Meters taken orally or anally? Do you have to leave them in for the full two minutes to register a reading? Do you have to hold it up to a lamp?
Serously, my friends and I used to joke about shoving IQ meters up peoples asses and watching the mercury drop. One inside joke we have is when the conversation turns from “already-petty” to “absolutely assenine”, one of us will say “Hey, I think the mercury is dropping again.”
Somebody always said “Yeah, I’m cold too.”
And now, back to the regularly scheduled bullshit!
Yes, yes panamajack, let’s not confuse anyone here. Cerenkov Radiation is caused by particles moving faster than the speed of light in a medium. Relativity states that nothing with mass can travel faster than the speed of light in a vacuum, which still holds true in all known cases (with the possible exception of the hypothetical tachyon already mentioned, but let’s not get into that here).
I don’t think panamajack has confused anyone. Besides, he brought up a real physical fact (something totally lacking in the OP), made a great joke (shell/orbital? Cool.), and pointed out another reason to make fun of jayshah (the thread title).
Thanks, Saltire. And be my guest, Manda JO. And here I thought I was going to get shot for that line.
I wasn’t trying to confuse anyone here. And if they were confused, they should have enough information to find out more. I was pointing out that whoever wrote this in all likelihood knew what they were talking about. Whoever they are, they are probably sitting around laughing at the ignorance of those taken in by their absurd statements, while possibly feeling okay that it’s basically true. I still dislike it.
Just for the record, I wouldn’t normally make fun of someone’s typos, but considering the content, tone, & lack of any inquiry of the OP, that sort of cheap shot seemed okay.
