YOU OWE ME A NEW KEYBOARD!!! :D:D:D:D
Be thankful. The cheek-pinchings, hair-tuggings, and general hands-on approach I experienced from strangers everywhere as a child leaves its own scars.
Seriously. The way people used to touch, grab, and fawn over me as a child would get them arrested in today’s society. And Grandma wonders why I dyed my hair black in college.
The answer being “Because my boyfriend thought it would look hot.”
I saw the Who right after those people were killed in the riot in 1979 - Cincinnatti?
It was at the old International Amphitheater, and I had 2nd row seats - they cost me $150 each from a scalper. i took the Best Girlfriend Ever - Kay, and her two kid sisters, and almost got into a fight afterwards with the guy behind us that kept trying to pick up the 15 year old baby sister.
It’s gorgeous out here. 88 and humid. Yeah, I knw that puts me in the minority, liking this weather. Oh well, everyone tired of the heat, send it my way. But come winter, I get to send you snow and sleet, ok?
Maybe now. But back then, I was working (at school) 80+ hours a week. If they weren’t leading me out of the bar with the obvious intent of throwing some my way, the time it would have taken to score cut too deeply into my precious drinking time. But Tuesday nights were fun: $1.00 Iced Teas at Barclays, up the street a couple of doors to $1.00 imported bottled beer, then finish up the night around the corner at the Tin & Lint for Sticky Floor Night - $5.00 cover charge for all the pitchers of Meister Brau you could carry back to your table.
Taters was that the Who tour that featured David Johannsen as the opening act? I saw that one too. I’m pretty sure it was the first tour Kenny Jones played drums with them.
And speaking of classic rock concerts, who’s up for The US Stones’s tour (sponsored, no doubt, by Depends)? Get your tickets fast, because at $700 a piece, they’ll go fast.
Hey, anyone taking next week’s MMP? I’ll volunteer if no one has it already.
I’m sorry. You are not allowed to put “gorgeous” and “humid” in the same sentance. Bad Mr bus Guy. No biscuit.
They ought to call it the Steel Wheelchairs Tour…
Mick belts out “Start me Up!”, and out comes 5 MDs and RNs with a crash cart, to apply the defib paddles… BZZZT!
'Twas Cincinnati. [old lady hat on] I remember it well. I wasn’t there, but my cousin was, along with a guy that married my other cousin (and later divorced) along with someone I work with now. And it wasn’t a riot. It was a stampede. From Wiki –
I was a sophomore in high school in 1979, prime concert-going age. I never went to any concerts at Riverfront, though. [/old lady]
**Bobbio ** - that’s what they called the Stones’ tour 20 years ago!
All in favor of Sean taking next weeks’ MMP?
AYE
all opposed?
:crickets:
No no no. He yells “Start me up!” and one lone technician comes out and presses the “ON” switch on his android body.
And…When I have to drive anywhere in this weather, I almost never use the A/C. I open the sunroof, a couple windows and turn my music up REALLY loud, like some punk kid cranking the Dead Kennedys.
Summer brings out the rebel in me.
Actually, I really like the heat, too, and don’t use my AC either. The only time that kills me though, is the lights. Sitting at lights I just swelter because I’m so stubborn.
Today is awful, though. I don’t like humidity.
Guess I don’t get one either. Sorry, rosie, but I’m with mbg on this one.
Sean, I can’t rightfully remember the opening act. All I remember is that they were so bad, they were booed right off the stage. Following them was The Clash, and finally The Who. I still have my concert shirt from that concert.
I saw the concert at the Kingdome, which has since been blown to Kingdom Come to make way for the new baseball and football stadiums in Seattle.
Uh, I don’t think I’ll be going to the latest Stone’s greed tour. I was sort of choking at the prices I paid to see U2 a couple of years ago. Still, the seats were awesome and my husband loves U2…to death.
Being a high school sophomore in 1979 does not one old - got it?
But being a high school senior in 1979 does…
Yeah, same tour. I was kinda mad that The Clash didn’t continue on down to Pittsburgh.
And if memory about what I read of that tour is valid, that band that got booed was The Kinks, although I might be wrong on that. But it feels right.
I don’t know about most of the things you guys are talking about. Sure, I’ve heard of them, but I’m kind of like ???
Hey, Twinks - got the package! Thanks! Is it all right if I keep it for the weekend and then turn it around?
The Kinks boo’ed? I can’t believe that.
I saw John Cougar open for Heart, back when he was an opening act and hadn’t grown a Mellencamp yet.
C’mon Sean – let’s be old together!
:Lissla quietly awaits the beginning of October and decent, proper weather:
Tonight is Jazzfest. Shoot me. This is Jazzfest. Probably about a million people around on MY STREET until Sunday. I don’t even like jazz.
Last year there was a bad Mexican band playing disco directly opposite work. Four hours of disco a night. Mexican disco. I’m going to blast goth music until I have to go to work.
It’s gonna be reggae this year right opposite. That’s a little better.
Shoot me.
