I really liked 11, which I just read because I have to wait for them to come out in paperback so that my collection can be complete. No, I can’t have 10 books in paperback and then the next one in hardcover. Yes, I am obsessive… why? Anyway, it might just have been my frame of mind at the time, but 11 really cracked me up. Now I just have to wait for probably a year for 12 to come out in paperback. ::sigh::
Oh man. When I loaned you my Harry Potter collection they were all in paperback, but the previous book I couldn’t wait and got it in hardcover, and the next will be HC too. I guess it doesn’t bother me.
What should I wear out tonight? I’m going to wander around a bit and maybe dance before going out with my co-workers. I think I’d like to wear my hip scarf, but I haven’t decided what, if anything, I want to wear with it.
Sean, FCD and I both loved the ranch hand story!
In other news, it’s never good news when the phone rings at 4AM. In this case, my baby had just finished filling her car in Blue Earth, MN and was looking to get out of the gas station, whereupon she hit a light pole. On one hand, she and her friend are fine, on the other hand, her car got a little crunched. She got it patched up enough to get back on the road, and right now, they’re headed to Indianapolis where one of FCD’s uncles is going to take her to get it fixed. Apart from the cosmetic damage, which she’ll probably ignore for a while, she needs to fix the fog light, get a new air filter for the turbocharger, and replace the wheel well liner.
Why were they driving at 3AM their time? Because my kid was wide awake and didn’t see any reason to sleep. I understood her logic. Anyway, they’re in Iowa now, headed for I-74 to Indy. They’ll stop somewhere in IL for the night, then get into Indy early enough to get the car to the shop and (with luck) get it fixed so they can save the rest of their vacation.
Which brings me to a once in a lifetime opportunity, or a groveling request - either way…
The girls are hoping to have a day at Cedar Point. So I gotta ask - is there a MMPer who lives somewhere near there who would be willing to offer them a place to crash for a couple of nights? They’re polite and relative normal for a coupla college girls. If you are so inclined, drop me an email - address is in my profile. I’m just tryin’ to save them the cost of a hotel, what with these unexpected expenses. And no, they’re not going to sleep in the car otherwise - we’ll front them for a hotel room - just thought I’d ask. Thank you for your attention.
Wow, FCM, I’m glad to hear the girls are okay. That really had to be a bummer.
Other than the car munch, it sounds like they’re having quite the road trip. I wish I would have had the opportunity to do something like that.
I did go out on the road with my hubby when he was an OTR driver and saw quite a bit of the country. The problem was, that he was working at the same time, so it’s not like we could just up and stop somewhere fun for a few days. The logistics of parking and getting a semi through certain areas also presented problems. Don’t get me wrong. I had lots of fun, met lots of interesting people, and saw lots of interesting country. But, it was after all, work for my husband.
I am OFFICIALLY on vacation. Whoot! I’m just kind of sitting around right now watching HGTV, but will start chores in earnest tomorrow. I figure I deserve some goof off time.
I’d just like to point out that I had Moose Tracks Ice Cream for dinner. Yum. Oh, and the girls have stopped in Iowa City for the night. I expect they’re asleep by now.
Life is good.
So here’s some cool news - in chorus, we’re going to have a “family fun nught” meaning just us gals singing for each other - and I have a new quartet - and if we’re any good, we’ll register and become official
I see how calm you are, but it must have been scary with that initial call. I am so glad to hear they’re all right.
rose - that sounds like fun!! Good luck with the quartet!
Mika - any call in the wee dark hours is nerve-wracking. But I gotta say, my sweetie has been a rock through this all. He was thinking a lot clearer than I was this morning and he was on the phone most of the morning dealing with everything. He’s a keeper, that’s for sure.
Hugs from me, too, FCM, and I’m sorry for the times I scared my family unnecessarily.
Taxi, this is just for you! I have a slab of white chocolate in the fridge (should last me a YEAR) and I just broke off a small square and am enjoying it.
Mmmmmmmmmm!
(for the rest of you, **taxi **hates white chocolate and I hate dark)
I am bone-tired, but in a very good mood for once. Today was my last day at my first temp assignment, and everyone was sad to see me go. I will miss them, too, and it’s not really the kind of place you can just drop by for a visit. The big copier and the shredder, however, probably were glad to see the last of me.
I have another job, for three to six months, if I pass the drug screening (no problem there), and if I can get to the job. Maybe this will stave off parental worrying for a little while.
One suggestion, Tel: no poppyseed bagels
Heh. Yep. Although I was discussing drug-related matters with the HR department today, while I stuck labels on envelopes, and apparently you’d have to eat a whole lot of them to make it show up on the test. The scary part is, I love them so much I might be able to do that.
There is now a Panera open at the mall nearest that office. As the bus was stopped at the traffic light, I saw two guys come out of the Panera, each carrying an enormous baguette. One of the guys apparently couldn’t wait, and took a huge bite out of his. Somehow this struck me as hilarious.
It’s Friday! Yayyyyy!!!
Hey FCM, I think I might be the closest MMPer to Cedar Point and I’m not really very close - it’s a bit more than 2 1/2 hours from my house. They’d be more than welcome to stay for a couple of nights, but I’m guessing I’m too far off their route?
Shorts are a no-no at work for me. We’ve had a dress code for a couple years. I hate rules like that. I figure if a manager can’t set general expectations for a department, they’re not very useful. My department is one where it doesn’t generally matter what we’re wearing because we pretty much keep to ourselves. So I figure as long as people are wearing clean, non-ripped clothing, I don’t actually care how they’re dressed. I’d just like for everyone to get their work done.
Yay…Tel on the next job. What might keep you from getting to the new job?
I’m sitting here watching a cute Colin Firth movie that I found at the library, Hope Springs. Dinner was grazing on free food samples at Whole Foods (it was Meet & Mingle night from 6 to 8) and then ice cream. Yummy.
Guess I’ll finish watching the movie and then go off to bed…

Transportation, gt. There’s no bus route out there for some reason.
Whew - as of 7:30 this morning, FCD has cleaned the gutters, I’ve beheaded the hostas, we raked the debris, and dragged it into the woods on the back 40… OK in the wooded half of the yard, but I bet we’re 40 feet from one of the sheds…
FCD is showering - then he’s gonna *let * me take him to breakfast - what a guy!!
gt - thank you! I’ll mention it to the girls but I’m thinking after all the driving they’ve been doing, that’s probably a bit of a commute for a day at the park. I’d suggested they just come stay with us, then do King’s Dominion, but they want to go to Sandusky, then to Gatlinburg. Could they come up with more expensive places to stop in the summer??
Today is pottery day for me and puttering day for FCD. It’s gonna be hot and muggy, so we’re gonna hang out in the basement coolness. Sounds like a good plan to me.
Pottery And Puttery - you two should write a book! (or form a band :))
Hee hee.
I’m up and heading out for the garden before it heats up. Then I’ll seek refuge indoors to join the puttering brigade.
