A BIG thanks to DRY!!

I collect porcelain hinged boxes. There is a certain type of hinged box, made from very expensive porcelain, called Limoge. I have always wanted a Limoge to add to my collection, but could never afford one.

I recently posted a Christmas wish list and a Limoge was on it.

I got one in the mail today.

DRY, I don’t know how to thank you enough. I absolutely LOVE the design you picked out!

Thank you so much for this very special gift.

Michi

Anyone who comes through like that for someone as nice as Michi is all right in my book.

Way to go DRY!

DRY, You’re a class act.

(But then I always thought so.)

grin

Thats my darling! Isn’t he special! (As if all the ladies didn’t need more of a reason to fall for him.)

Very nice, DRY, you can be so sweet and thoughtful.

And Cyndar? It couldn’t happen to a nicer person.

DRY rocks!!!
…didn’t I mention somewhere that dopers are the best?

wow !

Yep, DRY is the best! We have been exchanging e-mails for quite some time and I consider him to be a good friend, but this was something I totally did NOT expect. That’s what makes it so nice!

First of all, I’d like to thank Zenster, Bumbazine, Medea’s Child, poohpah chalupa and rocking chair, for their praise.

Bumbazine–would you settle for a toy sailboat? Michi asked for a town in France (Limoges) and all she got was a little hinged box.

Medea’s Child–Yeah, you SHOULD be grinning! The disclosure of this thread made the anticipated price of your Christmas gifts go way up (I ordered the first portion of your gifts last night, by the way)

But with that, this thread should rightfully be about Michi (Cyndar) and not me!

Michi is one of my two very best friends here. That’s saying something as I do think there are a LOT of classy people here, and I’m damned fortunate to call some of them my friends. (Witness my ubitquous sig)

I’ve found Michi to be a great friend who’s very deserving of whatever praise and small items of appreciation I (or any of you) can give her.

Moreover, I really respect her for choosing her profession: Most of you probably know that Michi’s a veterinary technician. While she really likes what she does, the price she pays can be pretty large–she deals with some really obnoxious clients, has to deal with the bureaucracy at her employment, and (most annoying of all) makes far less money than other jobs that she’s could easily learn to do. She believes in what she does enough to take a significant financial hit to “do the right thing”.

That, ladies and gentleman, is rare. And it cannot be praised enough. I, as her friend, very much wanted to do the right thing for her. This small gesture, is, to me, insufficient.

(Incidentally, many of you probably don’t know this, but Michi is adopting a new puppy. ALL of her pets have been adopted after being treated for being sick, and there was quite a bit of concern that Michi’s new puppy might have to be put down. Fortunately, Kiwi looks like she’ll pull thru. I believe it takes a really special person to adopt a sick animal when you KNOW that animal may not survive. I can’t say enough about her. Can’t do enough nice things for her.)

Michi, I knew that out of the items you listed, you wanted either a Steif Teddy Bear, or a Limoge the most. I was torn between the two, but when I saw a limoge website that had Limoges featuring cats, it was a pretty darned easy call!

I’m just happy you enjoyed the gift, dear heart. Thank you very, very much for being my friend. You deserve more than my small gestures, that’s for sure.

Your friend adores you very much. Best holiday wishes to you, my dear–and please keep corresponding with me. I LOVE your e-mails.

Thank you so much for being my friend. It’s worth more limoges than I could possibly afford!

You are a true class act, DRY. I’m proud to have you as a friend.

BTW, did you know I wanted a new Mercedes for Christmas?

Aaawww, you guys are making me sniffle! Isn’t it fascinating how the internet has opened up a whole new realm of communication between people, people we never would have been able to know until the internet’s advent?

I’m blushing like crazy now. You say the nicest things about me!

I talked to Carrie (the vet) the other day and she says Kiwi is doing great. Terrified of other animals, but getting over it, and doing much better healthwise.

I still find it hard to believe that DRY is single!

Me, too, Guinastasia. I think he’s an absolute darling.

(I’ll answer your latest email soon, DRY, I promise.)

whoops…that reminds me…I have been pretty lax in the letter writing department myself.

My thanks to GolfWidow (I can’t afford a new car for MYSELF, Paula!), BunnyGirl, Guinastasia, TroubleAgain, and of course, Michi for their too kind words!

Know what I’d like as my Christmas wish? The opportunity to some day meet all of you in one doperfest! Virtually every one of my favorite posters has posted to this thread–the creme de la creme, in my humble opinion!

However, I have to address this:

There’s a very good reason for this:

Take a look at the people pages. I’m not on them. This isn’t a coincidence or omission:

“Why, love forswore me in my mother’s womb:
And, for I should not deal in her soft laws,
She did corrupt frail nature with some bribe,
To shrink mine arm up like a wither’d shrub;
To make an envious mountain on my back,
Where sits deformity to mock my body;
To shape my legs of an unequal size;
To disproportion me in every part,
Like to a chaos, or an unlick’d bear-whelp
That carries no impression like the dam.
And am I then a man to be beloved?
O monstrous fault, to harbour such a thought!”
–Henry VI, Part 3, Act 3, Scene ii

Now, can we please turn this thread back to Michi, one of the most fantabulous people living?
