In America we hold to the “one drop” rule of Irish heritage.
You don’t really tip the bartender in Ireland, so he’ll get away with it.
I thought it was the “capable of drinking beer on March 17th - you are Irish” rule.
Yeah, this is what a real shillelagh looks like. (We have my great-great grandfather’s hanging on our wall)
What surprised me was this sentence, “Whether you’re listening or watching in New York or New Haven or in San Diego or St Louis.” I’m just amazed that when he was thinking of American cities, New Haven came to mind.

I think he was trying for a bit of alliteration. Not the most elegant example of the breed, but I’ll give him a point and a half for the effort.
So he’s a … Black Irish. 
But I see the Birthers were not too far off after all. They were just focusing on the wrong country.
