Having mostly missed my mid-life crisis I’ve moved directly on to my getting-old crisis and bought myself a Harley-Davidson Sportster last Tuesday.
A 1200cc gun-metal blue sportster. It’s got yer saddlebags, sissybar, front pegs, and a black leather Harley jacket to wear which coordinates well with the black brain bucket and highly reflective sun glasses. With 500 miles on it this week I’ve also got yer basic sore butt.
I’m toying with the idea of putting on ape-hangers and raking out the front end a tad, sort of the Easy Rider look I guess. But when the estimate for the work comes in I probably won’t, but it’s fun to think about.
I love Sportsters. You know that you’ll look cool (esp. with leather jacket) to everyone while riding or at lights. Some guy on an Electroglide went by me yesterday - he wearing a dress-shirt flapping in the wind (Summer came to LI yesterday) - cooool.
My husband has a SNORTSTER. He built it from four boxes full of parts that he bought from a guy for about $400. I love the bike, but it’s not too comfy for the long haul.
Too bad he likes building them more than riding them
Have fun, keep yer knees in the breeze and the rubber side down!!!
Oh, and…get a really wicked looking do-rag so the citizens will think twice before running you off the road.
I’m going to be in heaven this weekend since we are having Sturgis on the river around here.
You can hear them comming into town as I type.
In a way it suck because of the hours I work and the fact that they are driving down my street while I am trying to sleep, and then by the time I am getting out of work at night I miss everything.
The local PD has them close up the shops around 2am.
I would love to go for a ride. It’s been ages!
