A brilliant Affirmation of Faith at my church

Every Communion Sunday, we have an Affirmation of Faith at my church. This was a communion Sunday because it was our interim pastor’s last day with us, and our new pastor won’t be installed until September, so we did it a week early.

I was particularly inspired by this week’s Affirmation of Faith, and wanted to share it with you.

We believe in God, who created all people in the divine image and calls each person beloved.

We believe in Jesus Christ, who welcomed and ate with outsiders and proclaimed good news to the poor.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who breaks down dividing walls and gathers us into one body where all belong.

We believe God calls us to practice radical hospitality, inviting those who are excluded to the table.

We believe the church is called to be a refuge of safety and healing where healthy boundaries nurture trust and protect the vulnerable.

We believe inclusion means valuing each person’s dignity, welcoming their story, and celebrating their gifts.

We believe humility guides our interactions, teaching us to honor and serve others.

We believe God’s kingdom is a great banquet with room for all, and love is the host.

We believe our work is ongoing and empowered by the Spirit, who makes all things new.

Love means Love, without restrictions, without reservations, without recriminations. We demonstrate Love with our words and our actions.

That is a lovely affirmation. It has elements of the Nicene Creed and the baptismal vows in the Episcopal Church.

Very good words! Thanks for sharing. :slightly_smiling_face:
