A Chain of Links

If you’re not a fan of links, please don’t post in this thread. Every post should include at least one link – and preferably just one link.

Here’s the idea. Click on the link in the LATEST post. Engage yourself with the content of that link by reading, observing, listening, or otherwise allowing the content of that link’s information to make an impression on you.

As soon as you have a NEW IDEA spawned by something in that link, locate another web page with the NEW IDEA shown, explained, depicted, or stated in a different way and post a link to that new page. Try to make the new page you’re linking to unconnected to the earlier page(s). For instance, if the LATEST post were some page on IMDB, or Wikipedia or Yahoo! or MSNBC or whatever, try not to link to another page on that same site. Pick a new website if at all possible. Google for another source for your new link, if necessary.

After you have responded to the LATEST post in this fashion, feel free to investigate any earlier posts to see where their link(s) may take you.

The main objective is to see how far from the original link we can get without duplicating other efforts made in the meantime. It may be instructive to see how quickly we get back to the same link that somebody else has already posted, but the main idea is NOT to duplicate.

It can be considered a sort of “Telephone Game” we may have played as kids where your neighbor whispers something in your ear and then you try to whisper the same thing to the next person’s ear until you get back to the one who started the round. Then the starter would say what word or phrase he/she said to the first person so that all could compare how the message got morphed or altered in the process. (Usually somebody will say something totally different just for the laughs, but that’s not the main idea here.) Here we should try to have the connection to the next link be fairly clear and obvious to anybody. BTW, “Gossip” is another name for that kid’s game.

Here’s the starter link

Another thing, please make your post a reply to the post you saw as the LATEST in the thread (showing the link you’re responding to as a bare minimum) so that we can keep track of what post spawned which link – in case there may be multiple replies to the same LATEST post due to simulposts or whatever.

Also, after you include a link in your post, feel free to add any comments, observations or questions. But even in response to others’ non-link remarks, please be sure to provide a link to something new.

How weird could this get?

Enjoy…

I see this thread is getting some views but no responses, so maybe an example of what I had hoped to convey in the OP will be helpful in getting you into the spirit of this thing.

The “starter link” made me think of the theme music which can be investigated here and at many other websites.

Sorta like this?
[sub]Disclaimer: not my web site.[/sub]

Well, that made me think of this, is that what you had in mind?

This is what I thought of when I saw the Viva Las Vegas poster. Never seen a movie with her in it, but I got that beach movie feel from it.

That site featured a photo of Annette in a Ford Thunderbird, which made me think of the T-Birds and other classics featured at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction. So I went to that event’s home page.

All the cars and stuff made me think of these guys.

Maybe I have a musical connection sort of brain…

I saw the CNN Humvee (listed on the homepage at the above link) at CNN Center in Atlanta. I was there to see Notre Dame play Georgia Tech. Sooo…

The Ramblin’ Wreck

Okay. Schools who can compete in the football arena? Trythese guys.

Did someone mention Tigers?

that made me think of this (the tigers)

and yes I know I am SUCH a girl.

Baby Animals?

Which brings me to this

Cats, cats, cats, cats, cats, cats, cats, in other words, Pussy Galore!

Which can only lead to this.

Goldfinger featured this place.

Trying to find something meaningful on Knoxville’s World’s Fair, I encountered this which startled me.

Speaking of the World Fair

One of the headlines on that page is Public asked to suggest Expo mascot, which reminded me of Youppi, who served as the mascot for the Montreal Expos before that baseball team relocated to Washington.
