The problem is, “politics” isn’t some sort of fantasy football league. It’s real decisions that have extremely real consequences. Not talking about it benefits the powerful who don’t care whether the decisions made mean we have no jobs, or our homes get destroyed, or our loved ones die.
I understand how you feel. Four years ago during the run-up to the Bush/Kerry election things were so partisan on the conservative side, so full of lies and misdirection and bullshit, that I left the board for months. I didn’t come back until April. Didn’t want to be a part of it.
Funny how that works when your favorite candidate comes up short; you just don’t want to hear about it. Seems like the shoe is on the other foot, now: now, when the Straight Talk Express has turned into the Stumbling Old Man, you want to put your fingers in your ears and go LA LA LA LA LA, this can’t be happening.
So in the light of my experience of last election’s TOWERING REPUBLICAN BULLSHIT, I’m going to say no. Deal.
Here’s a challenge for you- find me a GOOD reason to vote for McCain.
Because for 5-1/2 years, he couldn’t vote for anyone. You would be helping him catch up, kinda.
Well, yes that for starters, but most especially the resulting view that procreation is an inevitable but sinful act.
Those other forums have been pretty busy with politics related threads too.
But, yeah. If you don’t like it, leave. Not a bad idea.
If Clothahump gets his way, the terrorists have won.
Alllll right.
(my bold)
Political discussions? On the Dope? I’m not sure those words mean what you think they mean.
…and yet a handful of posts later… sigh
At least that wasn’t tied to the elections. It was just a drive by jab at America that has some truth to it if considered for only the last few decades.
Still… another shitty partisan jab in a thread that it didn’t belong in… The fact that it didn’t mention someone by name is a distinction without a difference IMHO
Not quite the same and for two reasons.
**Red Fury **is I believe from Spain and does not live in the US and even considers are Democratic party to be too far too the right. I don’t think it actually was a partisan jab, I think it was just an anti-America jab.
As this thread is about too much election talk and my point was that it slips into other threads now far too often, **Red Fury’s **short rant is not really the same. Besides, though he did not bother to flesh out his post, he is probably correct. We have invaded more nations over the last 25 years than any other nation I can think of. In most cases for damn good reason and playing policeman, but it still does not change the fact that the US has.
You are absolutely correct and do know some of RedFury’s posting history (am one of those cheap non-paying bastards that lurked forever)… Maybe it’s just a raw nerve that ANY shot at America (Fuck, yeah!) is a partisan shot given the current climate.
People from other countries consider the Democratic party to be on the right, too. Like, for instance, Canada.
For what the US leaders considered to be damn good reasons.
(Emphasis added for sarcasm)
Just so. Heaven only knows what dreadful consequences have been averted by our timely invasion of Grenada, given its vast strategic reserves of jute and beach sand.
“Mr. President, we must not allow a jute gap!”
Yup, that’s why we invaded.
America has a long tradition of wanting to protect its sphere of influence. Our direct involvement in the Caribbean has a lot to do with keeping European influence out. Russia subsidizes Cuba so Cuba can support insurrections in Angola, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Columbia, and Grenada. America finally says no and yet we’re the aggressors?
I dunno… that doesn’t sound like an interesting challenge.
How about this instead: for the next month everyone types their posts while keeping two fingers in their nose.
No, seriously. Lots of us really wish you’d all shut the fuck up about politics and get over yourselves.
