A Chilly (Well, To Me) MMP

Who? Not sure I’m acquainted with the fella.

He’s most famous for climbing a beanstalk and a wee bit of home invasion.

If I tried to grab the baby pigeons, they’d just fly off, going neener neener at me. And if I was OK climbing up there to grab 'em, or to damage the nest, I’d just put the netting up myself and not pay some other git a couple of hundred quid.

We have a perennial low-pressure warning in the truck. It’s a sensor, and to have it replaced will be several more $$$ than is worth it to us. We’ve driven for decades without such warnings and when we take our vehicles in for regular servicing, they check tire pressure anyway, so, eh.

Eggs are peeled. I should empty the dishwasher. I will, eventually.

We’re bracketing you - low of 9c and a high of 13c, which maybe due to the whopping 20 minutes of sunshine today. We have entered the gray period.

My grandparents grew up in the depression. You betcha I’m using a silicone spatula to get every last bit .

Man, it’s getting dark already. The clouds aren’t helping and there’s rain expected later this week.

Repair person is confirmed for Wednesday, which is the same day as my 5-year hearing checkup.

On the train towards home, but I’ll take the bus to the gym instead of walking home.Hope my earbuds are still have enough charge - forgot to give them some electricity today.

Me, after reading the paper this morning:

how gorgeous, chefguy.

yes, i do scrape. one of my best finds at the container store was wee spatulas that get into chapstick tubes, and other small lip balm containers. so very handy. Silicone Cosmetic Spatula | Lotion | Shampoo | Liquid Makeup | Food | Soap Bottle | Container | Jar | Save Money - Etsy a bit like these. really great.

jtc, i’m sorry to hear that james is having difficulty.

At least you’re cute!

There I go again, missing an MMP and getting hopelessly behind! No good reason, just taking a quiet time out yesterday.

Yes, it’s getting chilly! We’re currently at 45Ferrets with a predicted high today of 65F. It’s sunny but not warm. I’m fine with these temperatures, but I know many aren’t. I spy a low of 35F sneaking in on Friday.

Some responses to last week’s MMP:

wet one and 52, Ariel is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing the photos!

metal mouse, if you want me to edit your post to delete the details of the legal action in the last MMP, please just let me know. I’m sorry this is happening to you. No good deed goes unpunished, eh?

J-Bats, you’re a good neighbor. I hope the folks got home all right.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one!

Oh. Ouch! I’m not able to watch the games unless I’m willing to bestir myself to go to the local dive bar charming tavern, so all I can do is look up the particular game and refresh my browser a few times to see current scores. Your detail does help fill in context, so thank you! Honestly, I wouldn’t have minded if the Ducks lost to the Huskers – their season is already pretty meh.

52, I completely agree! It’s not that much more work to make the noodles. I think I’ll go back to my original methods next time I’ve got lasagna on my mind. Which will probably be at least 5 years from now.

Taters, your plans for today sound like a nice day. Enjoy it!

Nut, I vote for snarky response. Such cluelessness warrants a leash yank. Sorry for the pigeon problems.

Great Sadie pic, cookie. No matter what the impetus.

Scraper. Almost OCD about it.

JtC, I, too, am sorry to hear about James. He must be so miserable. I am sure your visits are the high point of his days.

You probably meant deposed, right? I do hope so!

So last night as I was buttoning up to go to bed, I saw the battery on my laptop was at (!!!) 1%. Since the lapper is always plugged in, I deduced that the battery has died. Called my computer guru and am awaiting a return call to find out when I can get it replaced. Gone are the days when one can simply purchase a replacement battery, pop out the old one and shove in the new. Now it requires a full deconstruction of the machine. This machine is nearly 6 years old, so not unexpected. Meantime, I’m gingerly using it so as not to accidentally dislodge the plug to the adapter.

No real plans until later on this week, to meet a friend for lunch and drop my ballot. Wednesday at the latest if I don’t have a reason to go near a drop box before that – and I might, depending on when my computer guy can get a new battery in.

A bacon, spinach and cheese omelet for breakfast this morning, I think, with a couple of clementines and an English muffin. That should hold me till dinner, when I must knock out another portion of that lasagna. The rest is in the freezer, so I won’t have to endure it again for awhile.

Ollie is snoring away next to me, having had his breakfast, pottied and a brief scamper around the place. Also a rousing game of Boo Ollie, which he loves. It involves me shrieking, “Boo, Ollie!” as he does zoomies all around the house until he tires himself out. This passes for fun in our lives.

Have fabulous days, all!

Technology “improvements” amirite?

The first few chilly mornings when I lived in Tennessee, mine would pop a low pressure light. The line was always long at Discount Tire to get them aired up.

These are from last week’s MMP:

Well, if anyone believes that, I have a brand new car I’d like to sell them for $100.

metal mouse oh, metal mouse, I am so sorry for this legal trouble. Sounds like an ambulance chaser must have gotten to the older ladies. To lighten things up, did you listen to Elvis’ I’m all shook up?

FCM That’s great that you were able to obtain an almost new electric skillet at a reasonable price.

shoe you know I was just kidding; it was a comment not to be taken literally, just to be laughed at. But foreign language comments seem like the way to go. Or now that it’s a young woman ‘Dear, too bad your mother didn’t teach you better comportment.’

Holy Toledo, it’s only 3pm and there’s already 30 posts to go through. I really want to go work out on the NuStep so I’ll be back to read them later.

It’s definitely Monday. My stomach was rumbly last night after dinner, and I just chalked it up to the Thai food being spicier than normal. Made it into work fine and then around 10 I was hit with sudden sweats and nausea. Quickly took myself home, and while I haven’t thrown up, I (and I’m sure my coworkers) are very happy I can finish the day from home. Let’s just say I hope I can find the right combo of meds to calm things down.

Metal Mouse sorry to hear about your troubles, that would have greatly upset me as well. I hope you can update us soon with the all-clear.

Nuts definitely sounds like some incompetent pest people (and I had no idea pigeons can nest year-round!).

That’s exactly what I thought of too when I read that!

Knots are your belt buckles from anything in particular, or ones that struck your fancy?

JtC I’m sorry to hear about your friend. I hope he finds peace in his last days. Also, I sure hope they don’t manage to dispose of Metal Mouse over the phone - sounds like a terrible way to go!

Cookie She’s so pretty and just looks so soft.

Bright Tree Maybe give the leftover lasagna away? I’m sure it would taste divine to someone not used to homemade noodles.

The weather this week will be basically fine in the afternoons with highs in the mid to upper 60s; however, the lows will be in the very low 40s. So, that will be good sleeping weather but if I have to go out early, it will mean several layers will be needed on my legs and likely 3 layers on my upper torso/arms.

Menu: Pizza tonight with Italian sausage; Hubs has already gone to pick it up while I am sauteeing onions and red & orange bell peppers. Will also have a salad of cucumbers and tomatoes. Have 1/2# of ground beef left from over the weekend and Hubs bought a pound of ground turkey today so he’ll be making his chili tomorrow. He has plenty of cans of beans, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, etc in the cupboard.

What’s going on: didn’t wake up until 8:15 then checked Instagram and Threads for an hour. Worked, the software that is supposed to show the Settlement Amounts and Settlement ID for the credit card payments received is not showing those things. I sent an email on Thursday that was misinterpreted by the software company’s support staff so I sent a detailed clarifying email today. I had to make new Templates for the Merchant Payout info and the credit card details with what little info I was able to clean from the software (hoping that will satisfy the Finance Department and the auditors) so that meant I worked a lot longer than I intended to. Oh well. Had Hubs leftover Southwest Style Black Beans & Vegetables soup along with blue corn chips topped with some avocado and melted muenster and extra sharp cheddar cheese for lunch. Then did 3.55 miles on the NuStep. And now Hubs has just walked in with the pizza and an order of cheesy bread that he said he got to have with the chili tomorrow.

I got the results from the x-ray on my back…I’m old is the determination. “Age related wear and tear with some compression in L-4-L5.”
Thanks, I knew that.

It’s official: I’m going to Los Angeles (specifically Redondo Beach) in December! My friend and I spent a couple hours on the phone with each other yesterday yesterday, getting tickets to the show (Hot Chocolate Nutcracker) and then making hotel reservations and buying plane tix – separately, but the same hotel and flights (with seats next to each other). I’ve never been to LA but neither of us is interested in doing anything else in that area[1], so it’s a ridiculously short trip: we fly cross-country on a Saturday, the show is Sunday afternoon, and we fly home on Monday. It’s also a ridiculously expensive trip, because we each sprang for refundable, first-class tickets (and nonstop flights). We fly out the day after a big, week-long technical project review that I’ve been working toward since the summer[2], so my brain will be fried and I’ll be exhausted: I’ve never flown first class before, and I think I’ll be glad that I splurged! After I get home I’ll be taking the rest of that week off, so I’ll have time to indulge my hermit tendencies and recover from both work and the trip. I’ll have to remember to leave myself a holiday Lego set or two to build that week, because I won’t be able to afford to buy anything for a while. :joy:

I worked from home today and was a pretty big slacker this afternoon, even though my to-do list is a mile long. I just couldn’t get my head in the game. I feel a little guilty about it, but I guess it happens from time to time. I’m happy to be officially done for the day, and able to go play with Lego for a while.

Catching up on the end of the previous MMP before diving into this one…

It remains a mystery to me how I do have the patience! LOL! Nothing else I’ve tried scratches the same “theraputic” itch: puzzles, wood models, etc. It’s weird, but I’ve come to accept that this is pretty much where my disposable income goes now.

Beautiful, indeed!

My work here is done!

(Too bad there’s no referral program…LOL)

Thanks! Ever since it came out I’ve been on the fence about whether I want it. On one hand it’s a small/simple set and I already have waaaaaay too much holiday Lego, but on the other hand it is cute! It’s backordered online (no surprise), but if I go to the Lego store again before the end of the year I might look for it.

I had no idea there was such a thing! I don’t use those kinds of calendars, otherwise one would be on its way already.

Gotcha! I guess I haven’t paid enough attention to your posts to be tracking how old you are/when your honeymoon might have been…sorry.

That would shake anyone up! Glad you’ve regained some equilibrium.

With their “high-debt, low-spending” model they almost definitely would not agree to it.

I understand those words individually but not when they’re strung together like that…

LOL! But don’t be put off: Lego flowers and trees are definitely more of a PITA than buildings.

  1. and I’m not aware of any Mumpers in SoCal ↩︎

  2. there was an informal dry run last week; the formal dry run is next month ↩︎

Just find a hungry coworker - make them happy. (I work with two 20-ish dudes, I gotta fight like a feral kitten for scraps of S.M. mom’s leftovers.)

I’ve got a couple in Mexican Spanish (being a good ol’ East TX gal, S.M. will know 'em) plus a few in Brazilian Portuguese, one or two in German, and an absolute basketful in old-timey Polish.

Shoot, I can just call you something innocuous like a “ball point pen!!” in Polish and make it sound vaguely obscene. It’s all in the tone & delivery.

Oooh. Yummy!

Ohhhhh, that sounds amazing! Two of my very favorite cheesies.

I’d demand a refund due to medical negligence. They did not note that the sky, during the day, is frequently blue.

Me too!

Especially when the recipe involves half of a single clove of garlic.

First of all, I am not babysitting half a clove of … are you kidding me?

Second, that’s gonna be a half a bulb of garlic, and that’s just how it’s gonna be.

This is a superb suggestion, only I am a solo act that works from home. No cow-orkers, hungry or otherwise. But you’ve given me an idea: I may ask a friend if she’d like some – it would save her and her hubby from cooking for a night or two, and they don’t mind super soft textures in their food. If they hate it and throw it away, I’ll never know.

Garlic is measured with the heart.

Quick! Someone send over a priest with some holy mouthwash! I think my toothbrush is possessed. This morning after showering and brushing my toofs, I took the dog out for their morning constitutional. We returned to a strange buzzing noise. My sonic toothbrush had turned itself on. I tried to turn it off to no avail. I finally stuck it in a closet where it eventually died. When the new one I ordered arrives, I shall send this one down to Satan’s molars.

These dogs are making liars out of their owners. They said Eddy wouldn’t eat his breakfast, so just put it down again for dinner. Eddy has chomped down breakfast every day and licked the bowl clean. They also said Elphie prefers to sleep in her dog bed with a blanket over her head. She refuses to get off my bed, so now all three of us sleep there. Good thing it’s a queen size.

One more week to go.

TIL that a former student’s father did the graphics on the covers of the monster models my older brother used to put together. Had little me known that one day I’d have that guy’s son in class, I’d have run screaming down the street, not because I was afraid of the monsters but because I hated school.

I have no idea what I’m having for dinner.

I’m a scraper, but I hate trying to get the last bit of mayo out of the shoulders of a jar. Someone needs to invent a scraper with a J-shaped handle.

MetalMouse, I’m glad you’re not fussed about the lawsuit. My dad (a judge) used to say, “Anybody can sue anyone for any reason. Doesn’t mean it’ll go to court.”

Spines should come with a lifetime warrantee so you can return it when it starts to wear OR tear.

Oh, yum. That sounds divine.

On the plus side, you have a beautiful coat!

Why do I always run out of time?
