Took a nice walk along the greenway this afternoon. There’s a park-like area where a lot of neighborhood folks do some bank fishing in Stewart Creek that’s not part of any of the parks, but of the greenway, where we can still walk, run or bicycle. There were three old farts on lawn chairs about 20 feet apart drowning worms when we took a break on the bench there. When we got home, the neighbor dogs were out, so we played fetch with them for a while. Afterwards, we adjourned to the patio for iced tea and to finish the book I’ve been reading.
Supper is pan grilled pork shoulder steak and a nice spinach salad.
lol, I remember when I was in the 1st grade (1981) I got a bonus snack because I knew how to fix the teachers "adding machine " because grandpa had one that he used for a handheld cash register (he sold and made quilts on the side ) and it printed out what you were doing like a receipt and id play with it and knew after so many computations that brand/model had to be cleared by a certain key combo and she locked it up … .which I had done my self but I knew the instruction book …
in fact, I think she had grandma send the book to school with me so she could read it since she bought hers second hand
Still insane numbers of callers, including some who should not be allowed near computers (and another rant about crappy “documentation” for the app I’m expected to be able to provide tech support for). At least I got my lunch right today. Remembered to add the peanut butter to the sandwich, and the bread tasted right. Both days involved Smucker’s Blueberry Preserves, which is IMO great stuff.
I got rid of my slide rule decades ago, (I never really got the hang of it anyway), but I still have my TI-1265 calculator. (ca 1977) I should put a battery in it and see if it still works.
Waiting for Wifey to get off her Zoom board meeting to see what we’re gonna do about dinner. We cleaned out the fridge when we left here and the chickie thighs we brought home with us to grill are still frozen. Our cooler works better than we expected.
I did have a slide rule, but it disappeared years and tears ago and is no more. As for calculators, never took high enough math’s to need one.
Dinner was on my neighbor’s gift to me (Cracker Barrel gift card), so I ate reasonably well. Even took a walk for about 30 minutes or so. Need to run the dishwasher tomorrow (it’s getting so I run it about every 5-6 days instead of once every 8-10 days, eating in so much).
And that’s about as exciting as things get in Case Hutch these days.
FCM, I have no camera or microphone either, so can’t help. Maybe next time they offer it…
Cupcakes, Butters, I’m looking at my abacus right now (it’s a large one, hanging on the wall).
Sunny, they go too long, point your speakers out the window and blast some Beethoven at them–or Wagner.
Nettie, fools with be with us always…I believe it is in the nature of the universe…
Everyone have a good night–hump day tomorrow (cue the camel).
Once upon a time, I had a slide rule. It was HS calculus, I’m guessing around the same time that Moooooooom was using hers in college engineering classes. There were calculators for classroom use only and we had to sign when we turned them in at the end of the class.
I like to buy thin sirloin for aspara nikumaki. I don’t have access to the proper beef, so I tend to pound it thinner. Sometimes I get it too thick, so…
Fajitas
I got some Angus sirloin about a half-inch thick. I sliced it across the grain into half-inch strips. In a one-gallon zip-top bag, combine:
[ul][li]Cumin[/li][li]Oregano[/li][li]Garlic[/li][li]Kosher salt[/li][li]Freshly-ground black pepper[/li][li]The juice of two limes[/li][li]Olive oil[/ul][/li]
Put the beef strips into the bag and mix well. Throw it in the fridge for a while. (This latest dinner, it was in the fridge overnight. Or a couple of nights. Whatever.)
Slice up some red peppers, green peppers, and yellow onion. Heat some olive oil in a cast-iron frying pan and throw the veg and meat in. Cook until done. Serve in warmed tortillas.
Maybe one day I’ll look up a recipe to see how to really make fajitas; but the ad hoc way I do it turns out very well. Especially with margaritas.
Morning everyone. It’s maid day so I must arise and do a few things in preparation for her. I need to venture out to the grocery store. It’s been over a week since I have left the house. I need to go to irk at some point just to see what is going on there which is nothing. I think one of my girls is going in to water the plants every now and them. I need to check on that. Payroll is Firday so I for sure will be going in for that.
I can say I will be glad for things to get semi back to normal.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 53 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 80 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I thought I posted last night, but apparently I did not. I’m old and retired, so it’s OK to get confused. We did accomplish laundry and yahd irk yestiddy, so go us! Sketties ‘n meatballs made for a good sup with leftovers for today which we shall consume for N.O.L. with any need to feed after that to be done via forage. A trip to the Pubic Sto’ is in order for today as well as a trip to Sam’s for some stuff. We shall decide who does what trip, cause we’re all organized and efficient like that.
I cannot imagine what Firday will be like when all the hair places allegedly re-open. Will there be a stampede? A riot? Will it be like Black Firday? All I know is we will not be apart of it all. Shaggy though we both be, it ain’t worth it yet.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, despair, woe, agony, and bother, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Le Sigh.
Due to an experimental teaching method called The New Math in second grade, I became math challenged. Rather than teaching us common arithmetic, they thought teaching seven year olds set theory and math in bases other than ten was preferential to teaching multiplication and long division. I fell further and further behind and just managed to get through the minimum high school math needed to graduate.
It’s a beautiful, sunny morning in southern Merrylande! I’ve got a load in the washer, and up to 3 more on deck. Haven’t decided if I’ll do all today or save some of the fun for tomorrow. I am going to have words with daughter and SIL, tho. They do their laundry at night, then leave the dryer full without leaving a basket, so I have to empty their stuff into one of my baskets, leaving me short till one of them gets up. Not amused. Oh well, first world problems.
**FCD **is running to Lowe’s this morning for a sheet of plywood. I need to run to the post office later - a Doper has claimed the patterns I want to give away, so they’ll be on their way. And I need to find the end of the drain from the roof - we had marked it but the tree guys moved the marker, and now the drain is buried under leaves. That should be a fun adventure.
Thus begins my day. I may run to Food Lion for some fresh veggies. Maybe when I go to the PO. We shall see.
Never even seen a slide rule. I’m a math dummy. I struggled with it in highschool. Finally got my requirements for it in college. Geometric and Measurement math I could kinda get. And I can count money in my head, like a boss.
It’s gonna be rainy and possibly severe weather today. Ugh! :smack:
My poor seedlings. I’m happy I left the Tomato plants in the cold frame for another week.
When I got done feeding Mr.Wrekker his breakfast I pulled a rump roast out the freezer. Mid-daughter can decide what to do with it. I seen a crock pot in its future.
I’ve had a breathing issue for the last few days. And my face and hands and feet were puffy. DIL disliked this and called the Diabetic nurse. They absolutely do not want me to leave here. It was decided I was retaining fluid and a diuretic was prescribed. I’ve pee’d so much that I’m afraid I’m dehydrated. I slept very little last night. Up and down. But…I’m not puffy anymore. Yay!!
Ol’Lefty kidney is working good.
Morning all. It’s mowing day, but I’ll wait until about 1pm for the temperature to get into the 60’sF. Rain is forecast for tomorrow, so I will get it done today. Dishwasher is running, seems that I’m using it much more recently…can’t imagine why…
hippy, I barely remember New Math…something about learning sets, IIRC. Made it through Solid Geometry and Trig my senior year of High School and that was it for math.
It’s chilly outside, 36 feels like 27, but the sun is shining.
Supposed to warm up to 55.
Hippie check out Khan Academy.
No playdate today, but Lily should be over tomorrow.
Yesterday Jax’s mom posted a video on fb and I made the mistake of playing it with the sound on. As soon as Echo heard her voice she went crazy running from windows to doors looking for her.
I woke up too early today, my son was washing clothes and the dryer woke me up. But I slept through the dogs getting up, going outside, and coming back to bed.
Got groceries yesterday. I forgot to tell my son that there were eggs in one of the bags. Fortunately, the eggs were okay, but one of top of a can of cheese came off and the entire can sprayed into the bag. What a mess!!! They were on sale so I bought 4 cans, so the dogs have enough to last for a while.
hippy, I missed out on the new math issue in my school (the nuns didn’t approve ), but some of the neighbor kids who went to public school came to my sibs and me for basic tutoring for long division. It seemed that that part of fourth grade math just didn’t translate well.
Up, breakfasted, caffeinating and fixing to go to irk at noon. Nothing big shaking at CasaRoja.
We must be of comparable age (I was in grade school in the mid-to-late 70s, graduated high school in 1987). I had blamed being out of school for a month of third grade for my math challenges (ruptured appendix and complications from same), but “New Math” probably didn’t help. From what little I’ve seen of it, Common Core is even worse.
Seriously debating facing irk today. My allergies are acting up, which has my sinuses going absolutely nuts. Waking up to throbbing sinuses is not good.
