A clock setters challenge!

I just recently finished a redecoration of my kitchen, I wish you could see it, very lovely.

There was this funny kind of wall space that I decided to use up as two large bulletin boards with a blackboard (for grocery list) in between. I decided to put above this configuration several clocks set to different times around the world. Places I like to visit, places I sometimes call, and so on.

While I am familiar with the time difference thing, (I have travelled to most of these spots), it always hurts my head, and I am never certain I’ve got it just right.

So it’s all been together for a few days now, I even have the name plates ready, but the thought of figuring it all out just makes my head spin.

Besides that though, I really want to be certain it’s right, which, if I do it, won’t be the case.

Then it occured to me to consult the straight dope, you’re the smartest people I know, my highest authority. If you would only lend me your help I could set the clocks and confidently stand my ground when challenged by my husbands idiot friends.

How about it? Feel up to the challenge?

There are five clocks, but one is set to where I live, lovely London, Ontario Canada (same time zone as Toronto).

So, if it’s midnight where I am, what time is it in these cities?

Paris, France
Bangkok, Thailand
Singapore
Brisbane, Australia

Don’t get me wrong, I might be able to figure it out myself----eventually, but the chance of me getting it right seems pretty slim.

I bow to your superior knowledge, and bless you for your help. May heaven’s finest blessings shower down upon you.

Thank you again,
Peace

Unclebeer you are a God to me.

That site is just the ticket for the time challenged like me.

From now on when people ask what me favorite beer is I will say,

“Why, Unclebeer, of course.”

(Which will no doubt confuse them as the mister is a brewmaster at a local microbrewery).
Those in the know however, will understand,

Unclebeer = nectar of the Gods!

Thanks again!

A word of warning: I’m not sure that Bangkok and Singapore change their clocks with the seasons like we North Americans do, and Brisbane would change in the opposite direction to us. So at approximately the same time that you’re "Spring Forward"ing your Toronto clock, you’ll be "Fall Behind"ing your Australian clock.

Singapore does not change time for the seasons.

True enough. And the link I posted show which cities are currently observing Daylight Saving Time. The link on this page will, I believe, make the necessary adjustments for you.
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/setpersonal.html

As long as daylight saving time was brought up, note North America switches to DST on the first Sunday of April, while most of the rest of the world switches on the last Sunday of March. There’s an explanation here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daylight_saving_time

Consulting UncleBeer’s link and Wikipedia, I see Brisbane doesn’t observe DST. If one of your clocks was for an Australian area that did, there are additional complications.

In October, your Australia clock should be set forward 1 hour when your local clock is set back 1 hour.

But in March, your Australia clock should be set backward 1 hour. Then in April, your local clock should be set forward 1 hour.

And because of the International Date Line, the Australian DST switch occurs the day before North America.

When I was listening to a webcast from Australia Radio National, I got all of these switches wrong the first time I encountered them. In October, when we all switch on the same day, I was one hour late listening to an afternoon webcast. That’s because it was the day before our switch, but it was early tomorrow AM in Australia and they had already switched.

Basically, I’d say THE best resource is (as UncleBeer so promptly posted) www.timeanddate.com
If there’s any question about when Daylight Time is observed and which places observe it, I’d go with what www.timeanddate.com says.
It is a fantastic website.

A nice lttle application for tracking up to 24 different time zones  World Time. Also keeps my system clock synchronized.

You are correct. Australian states and territories that don’t observe DST are:

Queensland, Western Australia and Northern Territory.

Brisbane is in Queensland.

So your Brisbane clock can just be set 10 hours ahead of London’s non daylight savings time and left like that.

World Time which I mentioned previously will allow as many different clocks as you want and set different DLS settings to each clock as in one for Brisbane, Sydney, etc, and doesn’t Adelaide have something wierd going on with there time as in it’s 30 minutes different or something.

Both South Australia (Adelaide) and the Northern Territory are GMT + 9:30 rather than GMT + 9:00 (which they should be IMO).
