A Congressional Black Caucus is ok but a Congressional White Caucus is not. Why?

Uh, I think you’re the one who has no idea what de facto means. It means in practice, but not officially.

de fac·to (d fkt, d)
adv.
In reality or fact; actually.
adj.

  1. Actual: de facto segregation.
  2. Exercising power or serving a function without being legally or officially established: a de facto government; a de facto nuclear storage facility.

Yeah, but then a couple years later some genius would come along all butthurt that there isn’t a Dexter Caucus, and then everybody would wonder what serial killers have to do with Congress when traditionally it’s been the eminent domain of out-and-out crooks… it would get confusing.

No, I didn’t.

Why would anyone care if there is a Congressional Black Caucus? They have a Republic Caucus, and a Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues. There is even a Congressional Bike Caucus to promote bike issues, whatever the hell those are.

Because when we’re taught about ending racism, we’re told that the solution is that everyone should be equal. And yet, saying one race can do X but another can’t strikes people as unequal.

And, yes, they’d assume that the women thing is sexist, but the bicycle thing is okay because it’s okay to discriminate on those grounds.

The NAACP allows white people to join. White people are allowed at black colleges and black churches and black stores and black restaurants. There ain’t no signs outside saying “no crackers”. So what is it that you think black people are allowed to do that white people aren’t allowed to do?

The Black Caucus is a group of representatives who meet to adress black issues. It’s not limited to black members of congress, it just turns out that most majority black districts tend to elect black representatives, just as majority white districts tend to elect whites. So if you represent a black district it turns out you’re probably going to be black. If a white guy who represented a black district wanted to join, you think they’d keep him out? Seriously?

I saw the original thread title and clicked on it, thinking "Who’s got a problem with a complete blood count (CBC) and wants a CWC (complete white (blood cell) count) instead? Don’t they know the CBC includes a total white count?

Nevermind.

From my perspective you are the only one who doesn’t know what de facto means here.

If you actually realized your original argument was stupid, you’re in fact far ahead of the vast, vast majority of people and I commend you for realizing you were in the wrong. It takes a smart person to realize they were dumb about something. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, Steve Cohen, who represents the 9th district in Tennessee which is primarily African-American, wanted to join the CBC but did not attempt to join when it was made clear that he would not be accepted.

Just one article that mentions it towards the end

Why would he not attempt to join and make them reject him? That would be an activist way to change the system for the betterment of your constituents IMO.

Is it racist if Jewish parents want their children to only marry Jews?

In my opinion yes. What’s the relevance?

Well, it’s a Latin phrase…

English was the de facto language of the house I grew up in.

English was never the official language of the house I grew up in. The house I grew up in had no official language. That reminds me of someplace…

In 30 years when the US is majority minority, can whites then have racially-based groups fighting for increased white power and influence? Or would that still not be fair? Can white South Africans have such groups or is that racist against the ruling ANC?

I have a feeling the future’s new majority will not be nearly as kind to the minorities as whites have been since 1965, where in only one of the few times in history, a majority has passed laws not leveling a playing field, but actively discriminating against themselves.

This whole thread is a based on this false premise. Theree is no truth to the claims made, here.

Whites can have any special oragnization that they want to. There is no law to prohibit it. In fact, there is already an NAAWP. It is just that the overwhelming majority of white people recognize that they have no serious issues that need to be addressed in regard to their collective perceived “race,” and have never bothered to sign up to join it. Similarly, no one would bother to establish a White Caucus in Congress, because there are no issues in the country that face a majority of white people that do not also have an impact on all non-white people.

It is not prohibited, just silly.

This “de facto” and “national” and “official” nonsense is driving me crazy. Break it down, Dorkness!

“De facto” and “official” are very nearly opposites, inasmuch as “de facto” has a strong connotation of “unofficial.” It’s very weird to call something the de facto official anything.

“De facto” and “national” fit together very well.

English is the de facto national language of the US. The US has no official national language. And nobody has a de facto official language, because that doesn’t make sense.

As for the silliness about how them immigrants gotta learn English, I do hope they’ll learn better than strumtesco did (pluralizing “whites” with an apostrophe, really? I want to smack your third-grade teacher). However, the pattern of language acquisition by immigrants goes back centuries, if not millennia:

  1. Immigrant adults tend never to become fluent in their new country’s language (since adults tend to be shitty at learning languages).
  2. Children of immigrants tend to be bilingual (since they grow up with parents speaking the old language and peers speaking the new language).
  3. Grandchildren of immigrants tend never to become fluent in their granparents’ language (since their parents and their peers both speak the new language).

Raging against this dynamic is as foolish as it is futile. Instead, accept that new immigrants will never have an easy time with English, and that that’s okay.

starts slow clap

As a white man, I consider that the USA is the National Organization for the Advancement of a Few White People over the Rest of Us.
