A couple of fart questions

This first one may fall into the Urban Legend category since is comes from AFOAF. Apparently a few years back, Suzanne Somers claimed, due to her diet and “excellent” health, she had not farted in about 5 years. As be our metobolic processes, is this even possible?

Secondly, given the various dietary combinations available to us on a day-to-day basis, is it possible to produce a fart that smells “nice”?–Or woudl it still end up smelling like someone shit a rose?

Farts are a natural by-product of decaying organic matter. Some items are more prone to producing gas than others but I believe all organics do to some extent.

Also, different people have different digestive systems so some people are more prone to producing gas than others. I couldn’t say that Somer’s hasn’t farted in five years and if her diet alone could make such a thing come to pass. I suspect different people ion her diet would get different results. I also don’t see how a diet that is low in fart production ipso facto makes it a good diet.

I can’t imagine a fart ever smelling nice as it comes from decaying matter but that’s a subjective call. My dog quite happily sniffs asses and doesn’t seem to mind one bit…indeed she seeks it out. That said I’m sure we can all attest that not all farts are created equal. Some go unnoticed while others clear a room. No fart may be said to smell ‘good’ but certainly some are worse than others.

Judging the smell of farts is very subjective. Case in point. My wife claims that her farts smell like jasmine and come out heart-shaped. Meanwhile, I’m gagging, and our windows are melting.
I guess beauty is in the nose of the beholder.

I’ve also had farts that smelled exactly like french fries. In a normal situation, I love the smell of french fries, but just knowing that that particular smell is escaping from Captain Brown Star, changes my perspective. That being said, I still take a big wiff or two, okay three, anyway.

Most farts come from the fact that we humans eat things we cannot digest without some help. Corn, beans, etc contain complex carbohydrates for which our digestive systems do not have suitable enzymes to break down. Bacteria living in your gut break down these complex molecules, and the gas those microbes give off creates fart gas.

So it probably is possible to live a very low-fart existance if one is very careful about one’s diet. But hey, what fun is that?
