A Day at the Beach with the SDMB

Sorry to be late guys; it took me a while to get the courage to break out my brand new bikini:). I’m gonna sunbathe for about half an hour, giving me just enough time to run on the shore with Intergalatic Gladiator before nightfall, and then I’ll slap on my shorts and T-shirt to toast marshmallows…
…wait a minute, didn’t anybody bring chocolate and graham crackers? Somebody’s gotta have them, right?

…Say no more, ma’am. I brought along three pounds of broken milk chocolate from a candy store in the South Bay Galleria, and a package of genuine Graham crackers from the Sprouts Market. Make s’mores to your hearts’ delight!
Now, does anyone play the mandolin?

I would like to join you guys but I can’t walk without a cane and I don’t do well on sand. I hope all you guys have a great time, though. Think of me every now and then.

I’ll play my ukulele after I’ve had a s’more. Would you like to hear a clean song or a dirty song?:wink:

I’m actually sitting on Grace Beach, TCI with the SDMB on iPhone right now. It’s very, very nice. Horses at 10:30 then Cubans this evening. Big wave!

Why not post the lyrics to a “dirty song” right here on this thread? Short one, please.

♩ ♪ ♫ “Last Saturday night, young Nancy lay sleeping,
Last Saturday night, young Nancy lay sleeping.
When into her bedroom young Johnny came creeping…” ♫ ♬

If I posted the next line of the song, I’d probably get a mod note.

Trodding in from the street, with what looks like a full field pack and dragging a rolling Igloo Cooler, I came. I was dressed in the fashion of Nowhere: black flip-flop sandals, a T-shirt that says something about some concert 20 years ago, shorts with lots of pockets and, of course, a ball cap that says “Grumpy”.

Every step I take dents the hot white sand with foot print dents and elicits from the cooler the sloshing sounds of bottles, cans, and ice. Reaching the edge of the crowd, I drop my pack and pull from the bungee cords a blanket, an umbrella, and a wooden spear-like base. Sea gulls laugh and cry as I stab the beach with the wooden spear, churning it round like a witch from Macbeth until it stands upwards, semi-erect. Taking two breaths,
I then grabbed the umbrella and seated it firmly on the base, and as I raised the metal ring on its base, its arms raise to the sky, gifting me with shade.

In the distance, a HS kid is selling rental chairs from a large blue wooden storage container which is raised on stilts to protect it from the levels of the tide. A $20 bill gets me 2 lawn chairs… those wooden folding ones that are 30 years old, but have fresh canvas added as seats each summer. I pull them back with me, stealing glances at everyone else playing on the beach, looking for shells, or body surfing on inflatable rafts. In just two tries, I have the chairs open under the shade and I pull the ice chest next to them as a finishing touch.

Two cessnas fly in a row overhead pulling alternately the name of a restaurant with the all you can eat lobster special and the name of the sports bar with 25 cent beers. I smile as I open the cooler & deftly uncork a bottle of riesling. Floating the ice in the red plastic cup with white wine, I smile and toast the planes.

“No thanks. I’m good.”

I read you loud and clear. Want some songs by Oscar Brand?

Hey, wait…that’s the version my brother and sister and I sang when our parents were around!

Wow, I never thought of that!
Is there anyway to put an attachment on a cane that has, for instance, a nice circular base that would keep the cane from stabbing into the sand?

I just Googled that and, YES, there is exactly just such a device!

I’ve got to learn how to Google. Thanks for the link; I’ll look into this device.

SDMB on the beach.

Now that we have that little sign in the sand, maybe more Dopers will see it and come join us.

Okay, I looked into this device and learned that it cost $39.99. But if you buy two, you get a whole $5.00 off. I really don’t miss walking on the beach enough to actually buy the device.
