A Day in the Life of a Mod

Thanks to a postal delivery error, there is a fellow out there somewhere wearing only a T-shirt, receiving a BJ while leafing through a calendar wondering when he will receive his next delivery of blow.

I quit. I’d had enough of modding, and I quit. That’s all there was to it.

The only mods I’ve ever heard of problems with were Melin and TubaDiva, and I never heard of those within the mod loop, only as a poster. (Both were, anyway, before my time as a mod.)

ETA: Wasn’t there a mod whose girlfriend got in trouble with Child Support, and another mod blasted him? Also before my time as a mod.

Frank, I’m sorry. I was only joking. I really thought I made that clear but if not now I am making it clear. I was only joking. I thought what I said was silly enough that no one would take it serious and you were the only recent mod to step down and keep posting.

Jim

Given that I have Pitted both TubaDiva and another mod (not Giraffe!) since I stepped down, I was wondering if you were confused.

Oh yeah, I do vaguely recall that hullabaloo (well, hearing about it, anyway - I think it was a little before my time).

Hmm, yes, I see. Sort of like making a black hole on a message board.

snort

You’re welcome to your opinions on my modding, just like everybody was welcome to their opinions on yours, but keep it out of here. One would think you’d be more aware of the rules than that.

What rule, precisely, forbids me to post “snort” in IMHO?

ETA: Did you, by the way, report my post to the IMHO mods?

Did I fucking stutter, or do you think I’m stupid? In case I was not clear before, this is a formal warning to knock it off, Frank. Comments and complaints on mod actions go in ATMB or the Pit. Stop crapping up this thread.

Very well, see you tomorrow. I note, with interest, that you did not answer either of my questions.

Wow! I love the live action skits that take us through the process and really get to the heart of a day in the life of a mod! You fellas didn’t have to go through the trouble on my account, but I 'preciate it!

How often do you guys (mods) start threads of your own and are you encouraged to? I imagine you are pretty good at finding the answers to any curiosities you have on your own, but even the brightest Dopers are still inquisitive. Do they advise against you all starting threads in IMHO? Or the Pit? Or for the Game Room Mods, do you strictly moderate and if, for example, you’re dying to know something about Call of Duty, do you wait and hope someone else posts it and then give your 2 cents? Or can you start threads of you own on any board?

Mods are posters, first. There is no ban on and not even a strongly implied feeling against Mods starting threads (or posting to others’ threads, obviously).
Depending on Forum, topic, and Mod personality, there are Mods who have started many threads and Mods who have started very few threads.

The only restriction I’m aware of is that we’re not supposed to pit individual members. Or maybe that’s just a guideline, but I think it’s a good one.

Which types of discussions would you prefer not to moderate if you have a choice and which do you enjoy the most? Mine least favorites would be politics (never again) and philosophy if thread splits are included as mod duties. I still have nightmares about budding philosophers going on for pages of tl;dr arguments about which posts should be split out to which threads. My favorites were religion/atheism and the fun lightweight forums.

I avoid TMI threads unless something in there gets reported. Some things I just don’t need to know. :stuck_out_tongue: Other than that, I’ve come to like the variety of stuff that comes up in MPSIMS and there isn’t any type of thread I totally avoid.
