Nipper is a very healthy 14year old male family farm dog. At his last vet checkup, a new vet, commented on how strong his heart is. That may be a problem.
Two weeks ago a stray female decided to visit and apparently Nipper courted her. Here lies the problem. She was a very small dog and he probably could not have entered her. But he has cut his male member.I don’t know how badly but there are drops of blood everywhere. It seems to bleed when he gets aroused and I guess that is a lot.
How do I keep him calmed down without harming this old gentleman?Saltpeter comes to mind but I don’t know how much to give him.We are penning him up but that seems cruel because he has not been in a pen since we rescued him from the pound.
If you cut your penis, would you want your parents/master/guardian asking the advice of several hundred people with little to no animal medical experience? Over the internet?
See the vet.
Would you want them to put saltpeter on it? BTW, saltpeter was proven not to have the effect you think it does.
Please take him to the vet.
Let me get a clear bead on this…your 14 year old dog cut his penis TWO weeks ago badly enough that he is bleeding everywhere when aroused and you are asking for advice over the net??!! I would think you first call should be to a vet ASAP.
I’m not cruel folks.
He has already been to the vet and he said to keep him away from females in heet and to give him cold showers.
Sounds like you need a new vet.
OK folks
Saltpeter IIRC fed to a male causes the male member to stay limp.
There is an old joke, something about feeding a female spanish fly and her male partner saltpeter.
BTW Nipper was at the vet in less than an hour after we found the source of the blood.
I am not a vet. I am not a doctor. But I do know that if an animal is bleeding for two weeks, then something is wrong.
Take Nipper to a different vet.
Nipper is fine.
Bleeding aparently stopped yesterday.
Last time I saw him he was doing what he does best.Sleeping.After all he is 94 years old in dog years.
Damn ,What a Guy.
Didn’t you read handy’s post. If you won’t believe handy, maybe you’ll believe some guy named Cecil Adams
If you’re going to search the Web for free pet care advice,I respectfully suggest you check out message boards on pet sites like www.thepoop.comor www.petopia.com, I’ve seen some extremely knowledgeable opinions offered there. As well as some not-so, but what can you do? Free country. PLEASE get a second opinion from a second vet. If my penis were still bleeding I’d want some help. Good luck!
