Please tell me that this is all just some huge hoax. If it is not then I question the sanity of any parent who would buy this kind of thing for their child.
The TV station I work at covered this in our newscast, it’s not a hoax, but I doubt they will sell many, or even plan to sell many. Abercrombie & Fitch seem to be in love with “controversy”, earlier this year they marketed T-shirts with crude Asian caractures, then took them off the shelves immidiately. I suspect they do this sort of thing to get free “publicity” when there is a public outcry.
Because I’m sure journalists never take anything out of context for the purpose of a quick “juicy” quote, right?
And if I read it correctly, the prof was quoted as agreeing that it’s “outrageous.” I agree with her: since when has parental indignation ever reversed pop culture trends? All it does is fuel them, as any adolescent will tell you.
That said, I also agree that kiddie thongs are a disgusting idea (with “eye candy” printed on them???).
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this the same Abercrombie & Fitch that recently put out the “clothing catalog” that had more pictures of completely naked boys and girls then it did pictures of people with actual clothes on? Or was that Calvin Kline?
These things don’t come in a size smaller than medium, so they fit ten year olds and up? Who do they think they’re kidding? My twelve year old is already out of children’s sizes and into juniors. A medium in children’s sizes is usually about an 8, or an 8/10, which means it probably fits the average 6 or 7 year old kid. And there’s a big difference between being interested in clothes and being old enough for adult styles.
These were designed for kids age 10-16, although news papers like to claim that they “look” like they could fit younger kids. Around age ten, girls start wanting adult things. It makes sense that if they see their mom wearing a thong all the time, they are gonna want to wear a thong, too. And fourteen or fifteen year olds usually wear adult underwear anyway. All this does is provide the same options to fifteen year olds that are too small for adult panties.
Yes, I think that any underwear being “trendy” is somewhat ridiculous, but I can see why older kids would want to follow these trends. And I can see why companies would want to capitalize on this trend.
I don’t like thongs now, at 30, though I understand the various appeals. At 10 or under they would have driving me absolutely batty. I honestly can’t imagine girls that age wanting thongs, though I admit I don’t spend a lot of time around pre-teens.
quote from article:
“He said he could list at least 100 reasons why a young girl would want thong underwear, the need to hide pantie lines being one of them.”
where’s the list?
That I would love to see.
Its bad enough that its a thong for kids, for god’s sakes, but the “wink wink” and “eye candy” are what repulse me.
