Armor-piercing .357 will go through 3/8ths inch iron plate, but that’s about it for hard penetration for the round.
I would see if a targeted electro-magnetic pulse would short circuit the wiring. Or at least short out the speakers.
2020 can’t end soon enough. Sorry about your friend’s wife, Wheelz.
Made the lasagna yesterday and now have leftovers for good. My husband prefers the ricotta version, not bechamel and I added fennel and chili flakes because we like a bit of spicyness. May not be authentic, especially as I used no-boil noodles, but it is yummy. And that’s all that matters.
Would have been nice if I hadn’t missed the topmost layer of noodles, but oh well. I think I have enough in the box for making lasagna 2x more. I think I’ll want to make lasasgna again in February or so.
Anybody else think “la sag na” when writing out lasagna? Or are they thinking, it’s “lasagne”?
Happy Sunday!
Morning, mumpers! It looks bright and shiny out there after the storm passed by yesterday. I could hear the wind howling around and banging the neighbour’s roller shutter gate thing. Today’s weather message is “It’s a completely adequate day in every fucking possible way. Aren’t I a little fucking rhymer?” and it promises me 4C/39F with hights of 6C/42F, mostly sunny. I can deal with that.
Gym for me this morning then nothing else specific until tonight. I have an online storytelling event from 6-8pm, but a friend is suggesting a zoom catch-up at 7pm for anyone who’s interested. Another friend did the same on xmas day but I didn’t get to that one because I was cooking dinner. Tonight I reckon I’ll do an hour of storytelling and then swap to the zoom chat for a bit. It’s my turn to cook tonight so I’ll probably make whatever we’re having this afternoon so I can just heat it up later. I think that’s my afternoon sorted.
I spent most of yesterday afternoon on the sofa with the cat and a book or two. Finished the one I started the day before, and am halfway through another one. Same author, different kind of stories. I could get used to this!
Wheelie sorry to hear about your friend’s wife, I can’t imagine how he must be feeling.
Woohoo - woke at 3 and been up ever since. (imagine I wrote that in a sarcastic font.)
It dropped to 21° and the furnace actually came on because the pellet stove couldn’t keep the hallway at 65°! It’s comfortable enough here by the stove, but the farther back in the house you go, the chillier it gets. Great for sleeping, but not so great when you have to get out of the shower. Oh well.
nellie - I promise, I spend more time slothing than being productive. I just don’t post sloth updates because I’m too busy not being busy! Not a lot on today’s agenda - trash and recycling will go to the convenience center and I need to explore the freezer for supper inspiration. I’ll probably take all the dirty laundry downstairs, sort it, and maybe run a load while I walk. I really need to get the dining room seats reupholstered - the fabric’s been sitting there for months. Maybe I’ll get to it this week.
Daughter et al are coming over tomorrow. We’re going to move FCD’s motorcycle from the shed to the shop so he can work on it. We’re also going to move the planer and shaper from the basement and garage respectively to the shop. All are pretty heavy, hence the need for extra muscle. And it’s supposed to be mild tomorrow, so we won’t freeze! I just need to figure out what to feed everyone - I may order Chinese delivery.
But that’s tomorrow. Onward to today…
Happy Sunday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 26 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 59 and N.O.S. for the day. No big agenda for the day. We shall deheathenate virtually as it was decided that we would not have a service this mornin’. EYP is visitin’ family in South Keerliner and even though we could have gotten a supply Priest, we didn’t. Anywho, we (or at least I) will watch a Christmas Carols and Readings offered by the Diocese. I shall shortly put a poke roast in the slow cooker. Smashed N.O.T., baby lima beans, a squish casserole, and rolls shall accompany. I envision leftovers for tomorrow. So we shall have a nice Sunday N.O.L.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Afternoon all!
The wind was properly howling last night, so loud I barely slept a wink, but there doesn’t seem to have been any damage. It’s a bit nicer today; still a little showery, but there are gaps with actual blue sky occasionally visible, so I shall venture out for walkies- or splashies, given how much rain we’ve had lately.
I think I may go say goodbye to the bees, it’s an old tradition to keep them informed of changes in the household or changes of ownership, otherwise supposedly they may get all cross, feel left out and fly off.
I’m thinking it’s a good day for bean soup. I know there are some ham chunks in the freezer. Dinner has been decided.
Good morning, all you crazy gettin’-up-early people!
I was fast asleep quite early after last night’s quack-quack dinner, so I guess the natural consequence is being up at the buttcrack of dawn.
Sundays are usually quiet days at irk (we get slammed on Saturdays) and I’m working with the exact same crew as yesterday so we usually just pick up seamlessly where we left off.
I did have A Thing happen, and I’m not sure how I feel about it.
Got hit on by a customer, who asked if I’d ever consider going out. On the one hand, soooo not my type. On the other hand, 100% of my social life involves work … it seems like a good thing to meet new people, right?
Complicating matters slightly, she (yup) left me a small gift and her phone number. Which I didn’t get for a week (I had been off work all week) so it looks like I’m avoiding her.
Complicating matters more, I was so taken aback in the moment that I stammered out something that was definitely not a hard “no” and - in lieu of any better ideas, since I had a line of customers behind her - told her to get my number from me next time. So now I have hers.
I know literally nothing about her (well, aside from her taste in weed & gummies) and have zero idea how to proceed. I do know she is beyond not my type (not quite physically repulsive, but getting there) but if the interest is so lopsided, could we even hang out casually?
Nothing like this has ever happened to me before, and I keep working myself into a mental knot and then pushing it aside for a while. But she’s a rather frequent customer, and I’m gonna run into her sooner rather than later.
shoe, as for getting up crazy early, you wrote this at 6:37am! I can do 6:30 if I have to, but even my 7:14 this morning makes my eyes water. Long night of hours to fall asleep so I’m cranky. Gotta get some coffee in for deslothing.
Heading to Harriet’s today for our Christmas celebration day. That should be fun. I wrapped her presents for hours yesterday.
swampy, a virtual service today sounds like just the ticket for a cold, blustery Sunday. Get comfy with a mug of something warm and steamy.
nuttie. are going to miss you but I know you’ve found them someone to nurture them. Hope your new abode is such that you can establish a new
circle of friends. We all need our winged, furry, scaly friends.
Good morning all. It has been a rather nice weekend but midweek we are expecting cold temps and significant snow. Yesterday we deChristmased the house and put all of the decorations away. As for now, Sunflower and I are going out to our usual Sunday morning breakfast spot.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off again today. Alex Catt has hornked somewhere in the apartment.
Or worse. Spending the rest of your life being stalked by 40,000 angry bees in a trench coat.
hippie, we live only 50 miles apart. I wish I hadn’t heard about the coming coldness and snow~one more day of blissful ignorance would have been enjoyed. The last of last week’s snow and ice just melted off my car yesterday. On the bright side, if we get the right kind of snow mid-week I can keep my promise to Hattie and take her outside and build snowpersons. She likes to make their facial features with m & ms. A few always get eaten along the way. Tuesday and Thursday I’m doing some bonus Basement School days with her~her parents both work from home and her preschool is the child development lab school at the university so it is closed for Christmas break. “Boo is my name and Harriet wrangling is my game”.
THAT’S my other chore for today. I have a small tree, and I’m thinking I’ll just slip a plastic bag over it, decorations and all, and tuck it away till next year. I meant to do it yesterday, but sloth ruled.
However, I’m showered, dressed, and about to head downstairs to sort the laundry, start a load, and walk my hour. Onward and downward!!
Took ground beast out of the freezer for meatloaf tonight.
Pffft. My tree has been up since November 1st 2002. it’s not sloth anymore, it’s tradition!
The Daughter and The Son-in-law took down the tree yesterday. Per family tradition, it’s supposed to come down while watching the Rose Parade.
I guess they are also eager to shove 2020 out the door.
~VOW
I’ve walked. Second load in the washer, first in the dryer. All of daughter’s stuff in the basement is gathered in one spot, to be hauled to the garage in a little while. Meanwhile, I’m eating an apple.
I’ve got 2 more loads of laundry, and in a couple of hours, I’ll start the bean soup. The hardest part of that is cutting up the carrots and celery. So apart from hauling the stuff up to the garage, I’ve got a pretty easy afternoon ahead. It’s not like I’m Amish, doing laundry by hand. The machines do the work - I just fold and stow.
VOW - I’m also eager to see the ass end of 2020. Four more days left…
Good morning all, slept until 8am and then finished the Friday paper’s Sudoku’s/Jumbles, did the triple Sudoku in 22 minutes, a new personal best. Outside of dining out (Logan’s meatloaf) and picking up a few things at Kroger, nothing much on the agenda except watching some tackleball and recovering from the 450 mile journey yesterday.
nut, good wishes to your Anthophilan friends.
shoe, no idea about the possible new ‘friend’. Maybe she just needs someone to talk to, like us all, but she does sound a bit…ummm…forward about it…
nellie, Clarksville is a pretty substantial town in Tennessee right on the Kentucky border. Best known as the location of Fort Campbell, a US Army post. And no passenger trains run through there now.
OK, need to clean up my person and prepare for dining out in public. All y’all have a good Sunday.
The EMP rifles from David Drake’s ARC Riders are one of the SF inventions I’d most like to have.
How many do you actually have, nut?
No Xmas decorations here to be put away.
Up at 0900; fed and caffeinated, and should probably go upstairs and take my morning meds. (It’s now a little after 1200.) Maybe even get dressed and take a walk. Currently 34F and slightly cloudy, wind chill 29, with a predicted high of 37 and low tonight of 31. No real plans for the day, though we might head off to WalMart and/or BJs looking for eggnog (Hood’s Golden) and bread.
Do any of your cow-irkers who’ve been there longer know anything about her?
The way you describe it makes me think you’d rather not get involved with her.
You could find yourself in a relationship you don’t want but have a hard time getting out of.
I would say tell her ‘no’, kindly but firmly, but it’s up to you.
It’s stopped snowing here. We’re supposed to have clear, but damn cold, weather here until prolly Thorsday, when it will start snowing again. I hope not too much, 'cause we want to be back in the Valley next week for doctor’s appointments.
Our (artificial) tree is still up. That’s okay as we don’t have a good place to store it anyway. Have to have a think about that.
No plans for today outside of watching the birds. Little gluttons. I need to fix the threshold on the side door, but I’m thinking I’ll wait until it warms up in the spring, if I can get away with that.
It’s 30f now, heading for a high of 39f.
That’s all the news from Central Orygun. Y’all have a good sonday.
Had a good xmas. Fed ex delivered a box ox Sherry’s berries. On Xmas day. I got three plate of yummy food. The weather is nice enough that I have opened all the windows and turned on all the fans.airing out the place.
Knee still bothersome but I have found if I take my meds as prescribed I can manage the stairs to walk BuddyBoy. The dog Walker does not irk on the weekend. He’s a good boy.
Having a giant coffee but still groggy so may lie down a bit. Leftovers plus I thawed some ground beef so gotta do something with that. Maybe hamburger helper. Don’t judge. I like hamburger helper.
Happy Boxing Day to those across the pond. I think it’s a good day to drink alcohol.
