A Festivus For The Rest of Us. A Grievence MMP

I feel like I’ve been through a corn maze, only instead of corn there were iCloud accounts, Mac accounts, an external hard drive, and various apps. I have a terrible sense of direction and would still be wandering around bumping into things and wailing, “I want to go hooooome!” were it not for my son and two Apple reps. And Eureka! I have my stuff from my old laptop on this one. I’d kiss the screen, but I’d get it all smudgy. Plus we don’t know each other well enough.

NOT bad at all! Even if one bearer of a delicious dish (no Schweddy Balls, I hope) sees another one, they’ll assume that person didn’t ask you first. And they should be happy you’ll have plenty of food. Just make sure Jewish services doesn’t get close enough to the ham dinner to recognize it. :open_mouth:

swampy, what is a cheese ring? I assume not a ring o’ Cheez Wiz. Pimento cheese?

flyboy, that’s a great sale. How much freezer space do you have?

Noted.

But wouldn’t life as the cannibal kind be more interesting?

It’s sealed in bags, so I just stack the boxes up in the back bedroom (which is very cold since we keep the door closed for some reason).

We haven’t had cable in years. Lady SCAdian and our daughter watch all their shows on-line – Hulu, Prime, and gods only know what else.

Just put Roxy to bed - she should crash fast since she didn’t have a nap today. Fingers crossed.

If not for FCD, I’d have dropped most of our cable anyway. I do like being able to get local news - we live far enough from DC that picking up broadcast signals can be iffy. But with all the streaming available, I’m thinking we can drop to basic cable and stream the rest. We shall see.

hippie - we had a similar power steering thing with our pickup. Except it’s so old, it’s way out of warranty, so it cost a coupla bucks. However, it was less than several months of car payments, so it was worth it. We don’t use it a lot, but sometimes you just need a truck. You can’t haul a load to the dump in a sedan.

And now, time for some chillage. Here’s hoping the kid sleeps thru the night. I don’t know if I’d hear her if she fussed.

butters, you are wise for wanting to have your knee more thoroughly checked.

That’s good news about your mom wordy

Yay for your dad’s surgery being over dicey!

Mooooooom, I haven’t had cable for over a decade. I stream through my Roku along with OTA TV and get pretty much anything that I want to watch for what I pay anyway for internet and Netflix.

Safe travels metal mouse!

thelma, the folks who are bringing you dinner are doing a mitzvah and likely get some joy in doing it. They may not avail themselves of the opportunity if you refused on the basis of receiving other offers, so that’s your mitzvah.

Irked and will irk at least half a day tomorrow. At least things are beginning to wind down.

My high school history teacher posted this video a few days ago and I really liked the songwriting. I am now checking out some of his other music.

Uncle Carl

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I spoke too soon - had to spend about 30 minutes calming a crying toddler. She said something about a truck outside her window?? I took a small night light into her room and sat with her - I think she’s asleep now. I hope so.

I’m too old for this!!!

Hope this works~in lieu of my standing outside each of your windows and caroling. Trust me, you would not want that.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to sort. 12 more hours of Peak Season, them me and the tree gonna both get lit.

Redneck Christine? :open_mouth:

Could you at least wait till Monday?

Not bad at all. Enjoy!

Accepting a gift is giving a gift. What missred said about mitzvahs. Feeding one another is one of the most human connections there is. Enjoy the food, the gift of connection will go both ways.

King actually did two about malevolent trucks that I can think of, called “Trucks” (in Night Shift) and “Uncle Otto’s Truck”, (in Skeleton Crew).

Slowish day at irk, we’re currently playing musical desks so the newbies can be seated nearest our sup for quick help. I get to stay put, at least.

DH is only going to have about a half day tomorrow. I doubt I’ll get sprung early unless it’s totally dead. Looking forward to that 3-day weekend. No plans to do anything other than hermit.

I have probably the worst singing voice you will ever hear so I do not go caroling. I love these guys. they are amazing. One critique: Sister Mary Lorenza would be all over that guy wearing a hat in church. He would be in detention until he was able to vote

I’m sure I’m at least as bad. I have to keep explaining to choir directors at church that they’d much rather have my Siamese than me.

My mother used to say she couldn’t carry a tune in a bushel basket. Neither can I.

I have been asked not to sing.

One shift down, one to go.

In the parish where I grew up, there was a priest who loved singing - both his and the congregation’s. He would say “Sing out. If God gave you a good voice, praise him with it. If not, get even with him!” Even tho I’m a fair-to-middlin’ singer (used to be a Soprano 1 in my youth) I still appreciated the sentiment. A church service wasn’t a musical performance - it was about putting your heart and soul into it.

Except I hated being next to one of my sisters. 'Twas said she didn’t sing the white keys or the black keys - she sang the cracks… :open_mouth:

Round about 1 of the AM, FCD let out a loud cough the woke Roxy. I think that, coupled with the blankets she’d kicked off, set off the tears. I covered her up and sat with her a couple of times over the next half hour till she fell back to sleep. I was up till after 3, but I think I managed to get three more hours for myself. If I’m lucky, she’ll sleep another hour.

doggio - don’t worry. I won’t be sending the dead unit back till I get the replacement one, just to be sure it’s working also. And it’s little - about the size but half the weight of a couple of decks of cards. It will, however, be going to NC.

As for today - apart from Roxy wrangling, I need to build a french toast casserole for tomorrow’s breakfast. Haven’t made one of these in a while, so looking forward to it - yum! And it’s amazingly warm out at the moment: 50° heading over 60° later! The kid will get some swing set time, methinks. I don’t think rain is due till later. We shall see.

Onward! Merry Christmas Eve!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’ YAWN Once again I was a slugabed until after seven a.m. Shock, I know! 'Tis 59 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 65 and rain/tstorms/apocalypse for the day. A big bunch of green, yellow, and red stuff is headed this way from Alabammy and should be here in a couple of hours. The big plan of the day is to attend Christmas Eve services, I shall also make a cheese ring just cause. Sounds weird, especially with the strawberry preserves, but 'tis really good! We shall dine upon majik intartoobz pizza for sup, or maybe N.O.L.

red I like your former teacher’s song!

boo thanks for the link to “Angels We Have Heard On High.” Gloria In Eggshells A Day Old!

thel I got no problem with you gettin’ three plates of nummy. Like others have said, the offers were made in the spirit of givin’ and you are providin’ them with the chance to give. Plus, three days worth of nummy food! Win-Win!

hippie glad the vehicle is under warranty. Hope the fix does not take too long.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday/Christmas Eve Y’all!

@Seanette

Imagine Dennis Hopper doing an impression of Stevie Nicks while smoking a cigar…

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s overcast but dry here today, weather app says “The sun is fucking worthless today. Thanks for the light, asshole. How about some heat?” And also tell me it’s 4C/39F out there so we have not got much to look forward to!

thel I call three dinners a definite win, especially as it makes the givers happy, and makes you happy too. What could possibly be wrong with that?

hippie good to know that Sunflower’s car will be fixed eventually, and it’s all covered by the warranty too. I bought an extended warranty when I got Keith, he’s only four years old and this gives me another three years (and includes breakdown cover) so I have until the end of the warranty before something serious and expensive goes wrong!

All this talk of singing reminds me that I am also in the same boat as those who can’t carry a tune in a bucket, although I’ll give it a good try! However, it did also put me in mind of a certain gentleman who does have an amazing voice, and also has a song called The Voice  The background on the video is the 2013 tour poster, I went to five of those six performances and have been a faithful follower for many more years than that.

Plans for today…I’ve already done all the laundry, vacuumed the floors, emptied the recycling box into the outside bin, taken the turkey and some other bits out of the freezer to thaw, and worked out who’s cooking what for the next few days. Not sure of my afternoon plans, maybe a bit of sofa time and a book. Then in the evening, I have a storytelling event so I’ll need to check my emails to find the one with the zoom link in it. Happy days!
