I beg to differ. I’ve yet to see a modern game worse than Wizards & Warriors. Four years in development and they couldn’t figure out a better user interface? I never could figure out where the fuck I was going, let alone how to avoid getting killed! “Oops, sorry, you just wandered into a wall of flame.”
BTW: the ironic thing is that Activision, which published Wizards & Warriors, started out as a publisher of Atari 2600 cartriges and contributed to Atari’s downfall.
On the save point thing, what genius thought that people wouldn’t mind losing an hours gaming because the designer has decided when and where you can save the game? That “feature” has ruined more games than I care to consider, Project IGI at #1. It could have been one of the best first person shooters ever aside from having to do the harder levels over, oh…say 50-60 times each.
