Thing is, the garbageman was gonna charge me for an extra pickup and I’m too cheap…
And I forgot :smack: the French bread when I went to the store on Saturday, so guess what? I’m sending my daughter tomorrow! I love having kids who can drive!
I have more to say about Nigel in HP5. I watched it again last night because I thought there was a director’s commentary on it–but no. So, #2 son and I ended up watching it. Is this kid the director’s son or something? He is in a ton of shots, the camera goes and finds him, pushing other more major characters aside. And why, WHY does he have red hair? I am conditioned to red hair=Weasley in these films, so I think it’s Ron or someone, but NO–it’s this stupid kid who doesn’t belong anywhere at all. He’s even in the final shots of the film! Grrrrrrr.
Wind gusts up to 40 mph here. Everyone stay warm and dry. I am still hoping for snow, but all it did was blow around. A green Xmas after all that snow–kind of disappointing.
I’ll be back in the morning–since I’m not working either the Eve or the Day for the first time in 6 years, I find I have a bit of extra time on my hands…
Well, all the running around is officially done. The last minute bits and pieces have been taken care of (save one – just a gift card which I can pick up anywhere) and all that’s left is wrapping and bagging. And a bit of baking, which I shall do tomorrow, either a nice apple or mincemeat pie. (I’m leaning towards mincemeat, as I luurves me some mincemeat, but MindWife doesn’t care for it, the culinary philistine.)
I did get her gift today. Packed it all up in a nice gift bag with a nice card, lots of festive tissue, tinsel, and battery-operated artificial tea lights that flicker a nice orange glow like real candles set at strategic locations throughout the bag. Each gift was housed in a little gift bag within the larger bag, layered with tissue. I went with tea lights this year instead of battery operated mini Christmas lights just because I thought they were kinda cool, even if they are more expensive. I tend to go pretty overboard on the presentation of my gift bags. But that may just be because I’m awesome at it.
I like mincemeat. And fruitcake. Good, homemade fruitcake that’s been soaked in booze.
rigs, I’m sorry your husband is such a moron.
It’s been a very relaxing day. Church, some chores, a lot of hanging around watching dvds, and the knowledge that Mr. Lissar still has three days off. It’s been very nice.
Mork, did you notice it’s dropped ten degress since this afternoon? Maybe snow for Christmas!
Oh,** Li-Li,** I do love you! This made me laugh and laugh, for the first time in a few days. Yes, I should know his limitations by now, but I am somewhat slow on the uptake meself, or so it seems…
Cookies are decorated (no more double batches–the kids were sick of decorating before we were done…). Got all the stuff for the crab fondue for tomorrow. We’re planning on dinner around 6; presents, then church at 9pm (I’m too tired to stay up for midnoc service); the stockings and brunch in the morning. Then work at 0530 on Boxing Day (which we-USA- don’t celebrate, but I do. I decided to do so when I was 18. Everyone thinks I’m crazy. I don’t box anything up or give to the poor that day–I just announce that it is Boxing Day).
CutiePie TVGrandKid is a cutie too! Nice lookin’ little fella there.
Rebo it’s ACBG (A Certain Burly Gentleman). I’ve taken to just sayin’ ol’ y’all know who as of late. Yep I do miss him but he’ll be back Thursday or Friday (said he might hang on a day and go to the Casino in Mississippi that’s run by a Native American Tribe whose name I can’t remember right now) and we’ll make up for lost time. We consider New Year’s Eve/Day to be our holiday. Plus his bday is comin’ up real soon.
Speaking of New Year’s Day, I have to plan out my menu! And shop! See, I feel that it is my calling to ensure that friends get their greens and black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day. That way if they don’t get rich and have good luck, it ain’t my fault!
Ooh, warm from the oven, topped with vanilla ice cream? Sure!
That wind from the north is fierce tonight–why can’t Canada just keep it’s cold winds? I want SNOW, not losing digits cold.
Well, my greens turned out delicious, cooked with a smoked turkey wing. We also had macaroni and cheese (made from scratch), and ham. And the pecan pie turned out really well! I did have to put foil along the edge of the crust to keep it from getting too browned, because it took about an hour to cook. I wanted to make certain that it was “set” before I took it out of the oven.
We’ve had rain here all day too, Rosie; at least the temps have been moderate (mid-50s, believe it or not). It won’t be a white Christmas here. Tomorrow, Christmas Eve, will (hopefully) bring a Washington tradition: the water-skiing Santa, along with elve and even Mrs. Claus! Yep, that’s right - every year, on Christmas Eve (for the past 20 or so), they get out there on the Potomac. It gets a little bigger each year too, with added characters (they have the Grinch, and others too–some dress as reindeer). The santa costume is on top of a (hopefully) warm wet suit, and some years it’s been pretty damn cold out there. I’m looking forward to seeing Santa on the Potomac tomorrow, though.
Piebringer - Mincemeat is [del]good[/del] [del]excellent[/del] awesome. Raisins and apple and allspice and stuff – it is one of two holiday treats (along with eggnog) that I dearly look forward to come the yuletide season. Mincemeat pie, mincemeat tarts (with sugared dough covering) – yum!
LiLi - See, you know a good pie when you see one. But yes, the temperature seems to have tripped over a warm breeze and planted its face, stirring up one hell of a wind in the process. I just came back from a bit of shopping[sup]*[/sup] and coffee and lawdy if I was sure I’d have blown away if I wasn’t weighted down by groceries. 'Tis a cruel trick to play having a beautiful day (rain notwithstanding) followed by a vicious night such as this.
I got a Timmy’s QuickPay card, too, and loaded it up. I think this is going to become standard government identification soon.
[sub]* When came back, brought pie. Apple and mincemeat.[/sub]
Mmmmm, mincemeat pie. Grandma used to make it. Yum. I haven’t had a mincemeat pie in ages. Guess I’ll have to make one sometime soon. Maybe just a little one.
TVGrandKid is a cutie…
I’m still in clean-up mode because it turns out that Local Best Friend is actually coming over here tomorrow. (We were originally going to her house, but plans changed.) It just means I have to clean a little bit more than I was going to anyway. Almost done, though. Yay!
I’m gonna wind up here and crawl into bed. See you in Haze’s MMP!
Work was slow, so i left early(a 13 hour day is leaving early?) Everyone was out of Cornish Hens, so I’m having bacon wrapped fillets for Christmas dinner. Nelly is watching the cat eat her food.
Mork, I’ve never had mincemeat.
Roo, I’m up for pole dancing if you are.(Gotta pick up lunch’s slack ya know)
As for Lunch, I just gotta say. . . you snooze, you lose.
Mork, I’ll have some apple pie with soy ice cream, thanks. I’ve never had mincemeat OR blackberry pies before.
CP, are you like Goldy the caterer in the Diane Mott Davidson series (without the dead bodies of course)? I was just thinking about your catering business earlier.
*Festivus poles, people. You weren’t thinking something else, were you? :o
