A forum name suggestion

Often enough, people have talked about matters that very much mattered to them in the Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share section. It’s usually where death announcements and grieving /grave illness threads go.

I’m worried that naming that section in that particular way may keep people away for using it. If someone posts about their recently dead loved ones in the Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share section, it can easily feel like it’s a comment that the woe/feelings are mundane and pointless, which is really not the case to the person posting. Imagine if, say, your parent, spouse or kid died, might it not sting to talk about it in a section that’s reserved for mundane and pointless stuff?

Might it be possible to cut out the mundane and pointless part and just retain “Stuff I Must Share” which would be more welcoming and accurate?

It’s really not been a problem. Really.

The joy about MPSIMS is that it is things that are sometimes mundane and sometimes pointless … and sometimes things that are very important indeed.

They are all things that must be shared, and that is what matters, I think.

Kind of a metaphor for life itself, which has all these moments all together.

For those who are of a more organized frame of mind, I’m sure sometimes this is annoying. But that’s how we roll.

It’s also a reminder of this board’s early days, before straightdope.com even existed, when MPSIMS was a single, very long thread on the AOL SDMB.

Of course, in our earliest days we only had two forum areas: 1) Comments on Cecil’s Collumns 2) General Questions. Ed maintained you could divide up the whole world that way.

There are only two types of people in the world:

  1. People who Read Cecil’s column
  2. People who can’t read.
