I just had a thought…since we have the Pit, wouldn’t it be kinda neat to have a sort of “praise” forum as well, where people could come and talk about something nice that someone had done for them, or something great that made their day?
Anyway, just a thought. What does everyone else think?
Sad as it may be, there’s a whole lot more to rail against and bitch about in this world than there is to praise. The Happy Place wouldn’t get 1% of the posts the Pit does, unfortunately.
MPSIMS already pretty much fills the position as “place to announce happy stuff, or to priase people”.
Lately it has become apparent we need a forum for ‘Stuff I must share’ Without the ‘Mundane, Pointless’ bit. There doesn’t seem to be a place for important annoucements that are not about th board.
This one’s better off in ATMB. I’d say MPSIMS currently fulfils the function the OP speaks of - I’m not sure a new forum would improve things. But hey: discuss. Convince us. 
The “mundane, pointless” has been discussed several times before, and the consensus seems to be that people are used to it. It’s a tradition. You may ask, how did this tradition get started? …but that’s another story.
We did recently change the description of the forum to say, “from frivolous chatter to deep thoughts; from harmless diversions to life-changing announcements.”
So, I guess this would encompass cats, Bailey’s and artistry?

First of all, welcome to the SDMB, Amazon Floozy Goddess.
Uh. Excuse me while I wipe the drool off my chin that resulted from contemplating your username. You want to post your photo in the picture thread maybe?
Second, while we certainly don’t want to be perceived as resistant to new ideas, the idea of a new forum comes up quite frequently and has been rejected numerous times for various reasons. Our beloved Mods and Admins are fairly content with the way things are right now. Again, that doesn’t mean they reject all ideas out of hand. As Dex mentions, the description for the MPSIMS forum was changed within the last month.
Regarding your specific suggestion, MPSIMS seems to me to be a good place for the type of thing you’re talking about. There is a lot of those types of posts there.
