As much as it sucks, I’d say tell the wife. Yeah, I’m a wife, too, and there are some things you just don’t need to know, but…yeah. If you can’t ever leave him alone in your home anymore, then let him take his drubbing and just see him in situations that are safer. FWIW, I think it’s as funny a situation as a skeevy one, but you can’t babysit him constantly, or worry about your wife. Either tell her, and let her draw the line, or tell him yourself that you’re drawing it for her.
In fact, yeah, do that. Spare your wife. Smack your friend upside the head; he knows what he did, and as harmless as it may be, he deserves whatever lack of trust comes to him.
