A friend of mine just got a lead role on Broadway!

She has only been in New York for 4 years and she has just worked her way right up. She is going to be Belle in Beauty and the Beast starting December 26th! She is the understudy for that role right now.

Donny Osmond is Gaston currently but I don’t know who will be in that role after him.

I can’t believe someone I know is really doing so well in professional theatre. We were theatre majors in college together and she stood out for sure even back then. We worked on a lot of the same productions. A really great girl, I am excited for her.

Road trip to NYC! How very cool.

What’s her name? When she gets really famous we can say “we sorta knew a friend of hers from a message board when”

Congrats to her!

Here she is - Deb Lew

that gets one great big
    w00t!!!

Mrs Cheesesteak works on Beauty, and has had nothing but wonderful things to say about Deb Lew, it’s really nice that she got this role. It’s not every day that someone auditions for an ensemble role, understudies the lead, plays the lead maybe once, then get’s the lead.

The only trouble with being Belle is that it’s a fairly short term contract, and they like to bring in stars whenever possible. It’s still a great opportunity and can open doors in the future. Ashley Brown was Belle before getting the title role in a little thing called Mary Poppins.

BTW, the new Gaston is going to be Stephen Buntrock, who was a Phantom understudy for years.

Woohoo! Congrats to your friend from this Broadway lover:). I was trying to figure out why her name sounded familiar, and looked her up on the IBDB…I’ve seen her name before in the Threepenny Opera cast, which is why she sounds familiar.

E.

Good deal. What are the odds? A gajillion to one? Sounds like she’s on her way!

So she’ll just have to make sure that she’s a star by the time that happens. See, no problem :).

What a small world, 1 block from my place in Cleveland they are performing “Beauty and the Beast” at the theater and my friend that is staying with me is the make guy for the beast, he also designed and created the makeup (from Disney’s concept of course).

Aha! found a link with photos.

That’s cool Cheesesteak! Small world. She really is a nice person and she works really hard.

Elza B, yes she was in Threepenny and actually performed in the number they did at the Tony’s but it was hard to recognize her under all that makeup. I love that show but didn’t see her in it - I did work on that show in college though.

Oooh, that makes me so happy! Aww Bunty! Loved him in Martin Guerre & Phantom, I’ll make sure to catch him in Beauty & the Beast.

Oops, forgot to add my congratulations to your friend Velma! That is so wonderful for her!

Congrats!
I have had a two friends with starring roles on Broadway (yippee, free tickets!) and it was fun to go see them after the show.

One was in a huge hit - the other was in a huge bomb.

Oddly enough, the one that was in the huge hit let her career just nosedive shortly afterwards and she got just really strange and left NYC…the one that was in a bomb went on, got lots of television, films and then he went back to theater and is once again starring in a big show, this time a hit.

So you never know what is going to happen in theater.

(No, I will not mention their names or the shows for various personal reasons.)
