A friendly game of Mornington Crescent

If we revert to 1922 I for one would sit it out 9 more years, which sets us straight to 1932, the year Brave New World was published, thus I I go full retro and swap Charing Cross for Charing T. Irreality rules! (pun intended, thus not capitalized).
Tooting Bec and Sloane Square have therefore derailed, @Dead_Cat’s pass can be unwound, if (s)he so wishes.

The safe thing to do at this point would be call Tower Hill. But never being one to play things safely I elect instead to go to:Brixton.

Nice. I think I’ll call in my River Service Token and move on to

Vauxhall

Vauxhall has river access, so we can get to Tower Hill after all. Safety first!

Brixton, Vauxhall and Tower Hill sets up the dreaded “Dead Man’s Hand” … the last three stations played by the venerable and late Algernon Beaverbrook-Huntly who was the first grandmaster to die whilst playing Mornington Crescent .

A black omen indeed so as an antidote: Bethnel Green

Quite so. I feel Tufnell Park is probably the best continuation here, it lets me keep all the dice for another turn at least.

Seeing as you have all the dice and penultima_thule has blocked my Beaverbrook-Huntley gambit, my only choice is to try a Linlithgow maneuver.

Kentish Town

And Camden Town. Kingsbury revised rules require me also to say ‘Uno’

Lord Beaverbrook-Huntley’s gambit was mainly to die. He was going to lose that game no matter what he played at that point. Circle was completely gummed up, and he was never going to make it back to Waterloo in time. And Smithe had control of the stations along the river, so he had no where else to go. It’s rank historical revision to imply that LBH was going to pull out a remarkable come-from-behind victory if hadn’t been for his right ventricle giving out at an inopportune time. Check out the excellent white paper written by Godswell in the 2004 Westminster Summer Quarterly with full analysis, looking ahead up to 20 moves in all directions.

Anyway, let’s return to our friendly.

In response to Uno I pretty much have to reply with Goodge Street to keep hope alive. But we’re truly in endgame now, unless someone has a trick up their sleeve.

Speaking of Godswell, I see Cardigan has us boxed well in. My only legal move looks to be:

Euston

Good game, sir.

Wait, all is not lost - I can play East Finchley and… oh, right, the Donner exception then applies. Still, I refuse to concede.

And the inevitable…Mornington Crescent..

Good game folks. I was very worried there a minute that someone had a legal move taking them back out to Heathrow, but it appears my luck held.

Well done all, well done. Thankfully we completed the game before DST in the US this weekend, or we’d be spending days going through the time zone adjustment addendums for international play. And no one likes that.

They haven’t addressed the difference in Daylight Time between the US and the rest of the world? I thought that was scheduled for the 2019 conference in Beijing.

The proposal is to register all moves internationally in GMT on all even numbered non-leap years (except for already scheduled sanctioned Eurasian matches in 2022, where moves will be registered in Tashkent, Uzbekistan local time).

Very well played sir, I take my hat off to you. I was hoping for some last minute shenanigans, but you had it all wrapped up.

I think I was a bit rusty having not played in a while - I’ll go back over my notes to see where I can improve for next time.

Ok people, as it’s the 25th anniversary of something or other, lets have a new
game…
In honor of the JWST, we’ll play to the Finsbury/Elkington rules (1977).

I’ll start with …
Farringdon Road

Gillespie Road.

Finsbury/Elkington rules are… acceptable In a pinch. May I suggest we incorporate The Fink-Nottle addendum? Of course, that would negate @Mk_VII’s move, but allow me to place

Kilburn High Road

Well, i think it’s a bit unethical to change rules mid game, but as 24 hours have
elapsed and MK_VII has not appealed, we’ll go with it. So…

Warren Street
