A Futurama clip that warms the coldest heart's cockles

Hey Doperoos,
While posting a comment to another thread, I was looking up the lyrics for a certain song that Fry likes to sing. During that process, I found this clip on Youtube. Be warned, emotional reaction may vary widely.

I get a tear in my eye when I see Seymour.

If I had gotten my dog after that episode had aired I would have changed his name from Goliath to Seymour.

I stand by my assertion that “Jurassic Bark” is the saddest episode of any TV show ever. :frowning:
News for the upcoming season of Futurama (to be released in 2008 on Comedy Central:)

Seymour is said to be making an appearance, and in a “non-sad” way. We already know his fate, so it will either be more flashbacks with Fry, or they might actually go ahead and clone him. Part of me says that actually cloning Seymour is a “cop-out”, and makes “Jurassic Bark” a less powerful episode, but the other part of me says that Seymour and Fry deserve a happy ending with each other, and us fans deserve to have our hearts, which were throughly ripped out of our chests, put back in.

Yeah. mr.stretch won’t watch that one again.

Auto, how cruel. As soon as I saw Seymour, the whole epi came rushing back, especially the end. :frowning:

I wholeheartedly agree :frowning:

Fry gets screwed over so much. Thats what makes me sad. I hope that whenever they end Futurama for good he gets his come-uppins. I say he should end up getting a dog that is descended from Seymor and him and leela should get married.

It just occurred to me that when Seymour died, he looked to be lying down, and his body so stiff with arthritis that he couldn’t stand up straight.

And yet, what kind of posture were his fossilized remains found in?

I wouldn’t have described my cockles as cold but … well, maybe you have to be a Futurama fan to understand why this should warm one’s cockles.

I agree, but the episode where Fry gets stung by the queen space bee is the most touching.

I know, I know. It was really Leela who was stung.

I agree. Cloning Seymour would be a cop out. Not to mention that it would be a dramatic change for Frys character. Fry is an idiot, and as part of that he always makes the wrong choice. The rational thing in Jurassic Bark would have been for him to clone Seymour and of course he didn’t.

I need to go and play with Goliath now.

This whole thread just … sniff…

One needn’t be a fan, so long as you’ve watched that episode. If you haven’t seen it, though, then yeah, I understand the lack of cockle warming.

My wife was not a Futurama fan before we wed; I have turned he on to them with the Adult Swim reruns, but despite her appreciation of the Simpsons she’s still lukewarm. Except for this episode; she cried her eyes out at the end, and when it was repeated several months later she told she had to leave the room and couldn’t bear to be sad like that again. A powerful episode.

Just reading this thread makes me tear up. That’s how deeply I was affected by that episode. And I see that I’m not alone.

I also agree that “Jurassic Bark” is the saddest episode of any tv show ever.

All right, you asked for it…

It probably helps if you at least know that Fry is living in the year 3000+ because he was cryogenically frozen for a thousand years, beginning New Years Eve, 1999.

And that right before he was accidentally frozen, he told Seymour to wait at the pizza parlor until he got back…and so he did… :frowning:

Must…not…watch.

Oh who am I kidding. I can’t ever not watch it. Off to have my heart broken again…

I agree. The mambokids and I watched that episode last night and they couldn’t understand why their dad had big ole tears running down his cheek. Not to say I don’t cry at “Jurassic Bark” or “Luck of the Fryrish”, but “The Sting” is just so sweet.

mm

You all may know this already, but I just read in Playboy that Furturama will be back in 2008. Just FYI for those who weren’t aware.
