You grow flowers, and try to crossbreed/mutate/genetically splice them. I’ve been tinkering with it all night.

Also, it’d be pretty cool to see what you guys come up with as far as the DNA. I think I’ve figured out that the last 5 have to do with the size of the petals. And the first number is how tall it is. I’m assuming the Hex codes have to do with color.

Ah, yes, the hex codes are the colors. The first set is the stem color, second set is the inner petals, and third set is the outer petals. It appears to do a fade between the colors.

Does the stem thickness indicate hardiness?

Two varieties of the same basic plant. The first has more yellow in its flowers while the second is more purple.

Okay, I’ve been playing mad scientist and genetic researcher, and I’ve managed to figure out which numbers (from left to right) do what, mostly (there are some that didn’t give any visible difference and some that gave differences that were a little vague):

  7. Stem thickness

    11.diameter of center of flower
    12.number of layers of petals (including center disk)
    13.does something to the petal lengths (different size petals on one flower)

    18.something to do with the outline of the central disk
    19.something to do with the outline of the petals

I’ve been crossing, seeding and messing with the DNA all night. I may have something from SandKings by the morning.

Looks about right to me, except you’re missing something: there’s two layers of petals, really. The “disc” ends up being the inner layer of petals. So 25 is the number of petals on the inside, 26 the outside, 27 is the shape of the inner petals, and 28 the outer.

Hah, don’t worry, it took me about that long to notice, too. Though I did end up with some pretty interesting specimens.

Took me even longer to figure out I could mess with DNA. Then I went on into full mad scientist mode.

Ah…I was using the “alpine lily” preset to test it, and that doesn’t have inner petals until they evolve. Since I was checking snapshot differences right after seeding, that didn’t show up.

Okay, wilding run begun. I let the default flower (the “alpine lily”) self-seed by hitting “evolv-o-matic” and I’m going to bed. We’ll see what we end up with after 8 hours or so of completely free evolution…

There’s no selection involved at all with the “evolv-o-matic”, though…it’s totally random which individual plants end up reproducing. Still, should be interesting.
