Seed

I was browsing some free online flash games, and I came across one called Seed. Basically, you start with a plant or two, and along the way, they may very well start mutating in different ways.

The fun part is that by selectively breeding, you can encourage traits you like in ones that have grown, or cross-breed different plants together and try to apply traits from one to another.

Then, if you eventually make a plant you like, click and drag from the plant to the “Drag plant here” box, and get the DNA code from it to share with others. If you like, you can also fiddle with the DNA code yourself and see what happens with it.
It’s not exactly thrilling, but it’s nice for wasting some time or to play around and see what kinds you can make.

Here’s some codes I made along the way. I just named 'em whatever popped into my head first. Copy and paste them into the DNA box and click on “Seed this” to make it grow:

OK, that little blue square on a stick seems to be just the result of entering an invalid string.

Speaking of entering strings, don’t do what I did and start applying “100” to the numbers across the board.
Unless you have a very good computer.
At least better than the ones here we have at work.

You can genetically modify the bits you don’t like. I’ve worked out what most of the numbers mean.

  1. height

  2. stem colour

  3. no of flowers

  4. ?

  5. distance between flowers

  6. tendency to grow straight up

  7. stem thickness (thicker stems also make higher plants)

  8. ?

  9. tendency to spread out sideways

  10. ?

  11. size of central bit, range 0-5

  12. no of layers of petals

  13. irregularity in flower shape (anything above 0.1 makes very jagged flowers)

14, 15, 16) mix of colours on petals

  1. thickness of petal outline

18, 19, 20) petal outline colour

  1. inner ring petal colour

  2. outer ring petal colour

  3. whole flower size

  4. petal size

  5. ?

  6. no of petals

  7. ?

  8. petal shape
    0.0 = spike
    1.0 = round
    1.4 = square
    2.0 = heart
