I’ve been finding YouTube videos of MST3K lately. This morning I found one with Kinga and Max as the Mads, and a young lady as their captive/test subject (also, Crow appeared to be voiced by a female).
Obviously, the crowd-funded revival was a success, but can I stream episodes without involving YouTube?
TIA
ETA: Specifically, I’m hoping to stream them on my smart TV.
You can stream several MST3K channels, both on Pluto TV and Roku TV apps from a smart TV, though that’s normally not an episode on demand, but whatever the streaming channel (supported by ads) is showing right now. By volume, it’s mostly the older seasons, but I’ve seen a decent number of newer episodes as well, especially during their Thanksgiving in July special last month, and I’d expect the same for the usual Turkey Day Marathon.
A few episodes from the last season ( I say last, because the most recent round of crowdfunding didn’t reach the goals, but who knows of the future) are available for Prime Members on Amazon as well.
You can also go to the Gizmoplex (previously intended to be the new Home of all things MST3k but didn’t quite reach it’s full potential) and stream or purchase content. Since the wife and I were higher level (around $100) supporters for the recent seasons, I have them all on DVD, but again, you can purchase individual episodes on the Gizmoplex (generally $7.99) or season passes and stream to appropriate devices. Smart TV’s are always iffy on such things (unless you are streaming or casting from a local source, which I do) but it MAY work. See this from the Gizmoplex FAQ:
ETA - according to the website, you can also legally purchase episodes from the RokuTV channel I mentioned above, I haven’t done so myself, but that’s likely an easier lift for the Smart TV option.
Pluto TV is an App for most Smart TVs, and shows on the play store:
Roku Channel
It does look like Roku won’t let you purchase videos from the Gizmoplex directly, but if you purchase them on another device, and sign in using the same account on the Smart TV you should be able to stream them, but lots of maybes and caveats, and the model of the TV will make a difference as well.
Again, specific devices vary GREATLY especially on Smart TVs, so YMMV in the extreme.
