A Good Experience With the Department of Motor Vehicles

Yes, you read that right!

After I’d locked myself out of my apartment on New Year’s Eve and before I’d gotten back in, I realized my driver’s license would also expire at midnight. The two combined pretty much knocked the wind out of my plans and had me muttering about how 2002 had to get 2 last kicks in before it departed.

This morning, I called up AAA to find out what I’d need to get a new license, and found out what I needed was the old license. I took the bus downtown, filled out the paperwork, paid the fee, and headed down to the state office building. It took maybe 15 minutes to get a new photo ID handed to me, with no comments about being a couple of days late, and no hassle whatsoever! They even changed people midway through, with no disruption. Of course, the photo ID I’ll be carrying shows me with a head cold and a rather forced smile, but still, I was impressed.

Hmmm. 2003 has started off with something which I expected to be a hassle going smooth as silk. Maybe this year will be an improvement, after all.

Anyway, I figured this was unusual enough I had to share it with you folks. After all, how many times have we Pitted petty bureaucrats?
