Shodan:
Assuming it is not a prayer to Satan, and doesn’t ask God to do anything I couldn’t stomach (“Lord, send whoever killed my niece to burn in hell” or such-like). sure I’d pray with them.
The controlling verse is 2 Kings 5:17-19 . There is only the one God, and He knows who’s talking to Him.
By odd coincidence I was just invited to the funeral of a former colleague who was Muslim. I don’t know their order of service, but if they have prayers that the congregation is expected to join in, I have no problem with a good clear “Amen” at the end of it.
Regards,
Shodan
I don’t think Muslem prayers end with Amen, so perhaps you may wish to seek some advice before going? I have never been to a Muslem funeral so I also don’t know what to espect, but I suspect that if anything is said it will be a variation on “Insha Allah”
Agnostic, will let anybody pray for me, but I will not pray with others, however I will sit in respectful silence while they pray.
Chronos:
I would not pray any prayer which conflicts with my own religious beliefs, but all religions are fundamentally similar enough that there’s plenty of room for prayers that religions would not disagree on. So, for instance, I would not participate in a prayer that went something like “Oh great Odin, who hung from the tree of Yggdrasil to gain wisdom, please give guidance to my friend X”, but on the other hand, “Oh great giver of wisdom, who teaches the path of truth, please give guidance to my friend X” would be no problem. And, of course, if it’s just silent prayer, or each person praying in their own words (which would be most likely anyway: Why would a member of a different religion expect I would even know any of their prayers?), then the problem wouldn’t come up at all.
You seem to be implying that Odin does not exist. Which implies in turn that Thor does not exist.
I have warned you about this pattern of impiety. Please do not make me screw with the LHD to punish you.
