I really should be outside planting my spring bulbs, but it’s cooooooold. Maybe if I try to bribe myself with the idea of a nice mug of hot chocolate I can convince myself… tho it’s awful tempting to just curl up with a book, some kitties, and a big mug of that hot chocolate without bothering with the whole going-outside-to-get-cold-and-dirty part.
Came in to ask for candles, ran into a mess at Chez Lili’s. Please remember that killing your SiL (whom you despise with good reason) may be ethical but it’s illegal. I do hope your BiL gets better soon - I know he’s not officially sick, but being in love with someone so nasty has to count. Hitting her with a tetanus-infested nail might count as cruelty to tetanus bugs.
The candles are cos I just viewed the kayuuuuuuutestest not-so-little studio. It’s very close to Botanic Gardens, lots of stores and a public library and subway and a few minutes walk from my coworkers’ places (several of whom will be transferred to Spain until Crazymegaboss decides to turn our world upside down again, but that’s another subject). It’s a converted drawing room, with a huge bay window (and thick curtains on it) overlooking the garden, and a reasonably-sized bathroom, and a kitchen which should only be occupied by two people if they really like each other (but which can be occupied by two people), and no carpet, and a boarded-over fireplace, and a huge closet which is not really a huge closet as the central doors hide the foldaway bed (one of those which have the head on an axis, so you just lift it up to put it away). The kitchen comes furnished, the bed stays, but I understand the rest of the furniture belongs to the girl who’s leaving it. That’s also good, as most “fully furnished” places tend to be cramped with decorative, useless junk. I haven’t taken any pics because the landlord wasn’t kidding when he said “right now it’s full of boxes.” Full and a half. Did I say I love it? I have to call on Monday to straighten out details. Oh, and the almost-ex-occupant was looking at IKEA’s webpage when I got there, so internet can be obtained (I saw places that didn’t have a phone jack).
You’re all great. I know that unless they divorce and he moves away, this stuff will keep happening, oh, every two months, but there’s so many problems with the whole situation that it’s incredible. He’s depressive, has very low self-esteem, has been involved with a few truly screwed-up women. I’m sure he’s not easy to live with, but… why did he have to start dating Chick from Redneck Hell and her horrible family?
Yes, it counts as dating her horrible family.
She got pregnant to snare him into marriage, and then abused and ignored him. He spent a couple of years living at her parents house, with, oh, nine other people, all of whom shouted at him (shouting is there way of expressing both affection and anger. My SiL told me once that he was no fun because he wouldn’t scream back at her)
Now they’re not even officially separated, she’s demanding extra child support (he’s already giving her money), and… he’s still sort of in love with her. I think what he’s in love with was the part when, way back, she was supportive and loving. And with the chance to see his kids, who adore him.
I know he should have run far, far away, but he didn’t, and this is a huge trainwreck.
I’m responding in my usual way to the stressful situation. I’m baking a cake. My birthday cake. Sponge cake with cherries and blueberries.
I survived it. I did however, almost bump my knee on an end table by the sofa. Gotta be more careful with those sharp left turns.
Nava are we supposed to light candles and pray you get that apartment or did you just want a little ambience?
JoeDawg awakened from his nap, and has had some death bacon and rice with his dindin. Reports are he is a happy camper right now. He is also glued to his daddy.
I’ll take ambience and Mumper prayers, thanks
Nava, I’ll alternate my prayers between hoping LiLi’s SIL falls into a very deep hole and hoping you get the flat of your dreams. It sounds lovely.
Bulbs have been planted, and I even got a start on trimming down some of the plants in anticipation of winter. Hopefully the weather will be cooperative this weekend, in which case I’ll continue with the trimming and pruning and such… if I’m really lucky, I’ll even get around to mulching, though that might be a little ambitious at this stage.
Pondering chicken curry for dinner. All depends on whether The Boy will be home at a reasonable hour tonight, or if I’ll be dining solo.
Just because she’s not here to defend herself doesn’t mean you should be badmouthing her!

I love quoting out of context
But seriously, that’s a crap situation
Good thought going your way and your BiL’s… {{{Lili}}}
**Nava **-- best wishes for you to get the apartment, too!
{{LiLi}} It’s so hard to see people we care about being hurt…
I’m sorry!
I’m reasonably sure I’m fresh out of rabid beavers, would rabid squirrels work in your recipe?
Your BIL, and especially his kids, have my sympathy, LiLi.
BTW, if you seriously want some more soap, e-mail me. We’ll make something happen.
Sounds like a neat apartment, Nava.
Good luck on the job search Smarty, I’m all too familiar with what you’re going through. Things aren’t looking too cheery in the Bumba bank account either.
Speaking of the debate, does anybody know if the debaters get a peek at the questions beforehand?
I just ate one of those Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers - Cajun style Chicken & Shrimp. (Hey, it was on sale and I was curious.) so now you don’t have to. There was some chicken and some shrimps in there. What there wasn’t in there was taste. I’ve licked stamps that I enjoyed better. I present this information purely as a public service. You’re welcome.
No it won’t. Not at all. A really good rabid beaver cake starts with one gutted and skinned, preferably freshly killed, rabid beaver. A rabid badger or wolverine might do in a pinch, but never a rabid squirrel. Cake must have it’s standards you know!
I just finished mowin’. Ok, finished then took a shower. We were gonna go over and see JoeDawg but his daddy says he’s snoozed out, so we’ll go over tomorrow. Thus, I mowed instead. Dindin was Papa John’s pizza which ol’ y’all know who picked up before he came out to da cave.
I now want, nay, deserve beerverages.
Where else but the MMP can you post for no reason other than just to say:
**My 6000th post!!!
**
:: confetti strewn from the upper floors by the masses ::
On page 6, nonetheless.
I read all of it to catch up, but any comments I may have had are now no longer relevant. Really, I’m just too tired to repsond specifically. Hugs, both congratulatory (Pie) and supportive (LiLi), and all other varieties (the rest of all y’all) I was up and out of the house at 6:fricking:30 this morning. I’m going to sleep by 8pm tonight.
I have no idea how many posts I have. When all of one’s posts are as witty, informative and vivacious as mine, it’s so hard to keep up!
ETA: 12,632 posts all of which are widely read with much anticipation!
I got my eyes checked. Turns out I had to surrender my glasses so they could get new lenses.
Required by the insurance company. yeah.
Fortunately, I still had my old glasses, and they’re close enough that I can make do for the next 2 weeks. FCD, on the other hand, had no option - he had to keep his. But we’ve got insurance thru his new job, so he’s going to find out what the deal is and with luck, we can order his new specs thru that plan.
But how stupid is that? We both wear trifocals. We both work on computers all day. We need our (#@^#( glasses!!! GAH!!!
Daughter and SIL are away for the weekend. So my sweetie and I have the house to ourselves - first time in months. Dunno how to act…

Hah, I think you and FCD both know -exactly- how to act, FCM
Keeping your BiL in my thoughts and prayers, LiLi; sounds like SiL and her family need to be knocked with the straighten up stick, though.
I’m very glad that it’s the weekend. I’m still thinking of Haze, though - and wondering if Rigs has any word from her–word that she can pass to us, that is (not wanting to put Rigs in a bad position, mind you!).
I’ve been following the story about the candy that’s tainted with melamine - now it’s been found in the US. And it’s the white rabbit candy, that SnowBunny likes - I hope she’s been keeping up with the news and hasn’t been eating that stuff lately!!
No real plans for the weekend; I’m working on that afghan, though. May do some baking this weekend too, come to think of it.
OK…I’ve navigated through and come up with:
Lots and lots of prayers for some type of happy resolution to BIL’s situation, LiLi. I’m especially sad for the kids, who have to grow up in that environment. :(:(![]()
And candles lit (metaphorically, anyway) for Nava and a nice new apartment. Is the bed a Murphy bed, Nava? That’s what your description sounded like.
mousie, I’ve got you down for Monday.
I can take the 13th, if no one else is interested as I’ll have the day off. Any volunteers for the 20th?
Bobbio, I’d be happy to post the rabid beaver cake recipe (and link to the picture, too). Do you have a link to the post? Or would you IM me the recipe and photo link? I think you posted the recipe before I had access to add recipes. If anyone else has recipes that were missed, please let me know.
I’ve been thinking about Haze, too, tarra. Wish she’d come back and give us an update on how things are going.
Longish day, but at least not as stressful as others this week. Little brother dropped by for a bit on his way home from Detroit, so I got home and cleaned up like crazy for a bit before he got here. We had dinner and then he left for Cincinnati-ish.
Gotta go finish putting my White Elephant together so I can mail it in the morning. I’m running way behind (but a lot of people are this year, it seems).
Yay for the weekend!!!
ETA: Hi MBG. How are things??? Happy 6000!
GT
Work lasted forever. Am tired; didn’t read thread. Sorry.
Night.
Mazel Tov! OF course, you can never post again, to save this for posterity…
blarug. :consumes beer:
