A Very Grumpy MMP

blurf

eta - I shall now compose the tale of the reason for my grump. It’ll be in another post

So last Friday, I finally had my foot fixed. The posterior tibial tendon, which connects the bottom of the calf muscle to one of the bones in the foot, tore, causing a lot of pain. Casting, physical therapy, and a brace did nothing. I was still in a lot of pain and the only thing left to do was to cut. Fortunately, the orthopedic surgeon is the guy you want to go to, so if he said to cut, it needed to be cut.

The surgery was last Friday. Overall, it went fairly well. My foot hurt like a mofo, but it was fixed. This morning, I woke up largely pain-free. I boosted the Percocet they gave me for pain with half a dose of ibuprofen, and I seem to have tolerated that well enough that I was largely pain-free all night.

This leaves the question of what to do for the next two weeks until I see the surgeon for follow up. I’ve got some stuff going on this week, and a little bit next week, otherwise, it’s going to be a long two weeks. I’m open to suggestions.

How would you spend two weeks of downtime?

First!

Second!

First! W00t!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 53 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 80 and sunny (N.O.S.) for the day. This is Fall weather in south Jawja. Bug guy is comin’ to do his monthly thing around eight this mornin’. I have three trees that need to be trimmed a little. I may do that, or not. Haven’t made up my mind yet. Da cave needs some defilthyfication so that might happen instead. Or not. It’s a willy-nilly kind of day here.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. I suppose I should make myself somewhat presentable before bug guy gets here.

To all the Canadian Mumpers:

** HAPPY CANADIAN TURKEY DAY!!!**

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Lost my edit window because my minions can’t function without asking the same thing several times over…

If I had two weeks of enforced leave, I would be ploughing through my list of unread books or watching all the things I’ve got stacked up on the TiVO/xBox etc that are waiting for “when I’ve got time”. Except I never seem to have time.

I’ve been MIA for the last couple of weeks, work has been completely crazy and shows little sign of letting up but I thought I’d take a couple of minutes and say hello to you.

Happy recovery!

As most, if not all, of you know, I have been having financial troubles of late. The troubles stem from the fact that the [expletive deleted] SSA denied my disability claim last year. I had immediately filed an appeal, then waited for my hearing to be scheduled. And waited. And waited. And waited. And got a lawyer, who also waited, but he knew what to do that might light a fire under the SSA’s overworked ass. So we did that and waited. And waited. And finally, we got word that the hearing had been scheduled for 10/26.

Meanwhile, I had long since depleted my 401K (which wasn’t that big to begin with), and borrowed from my family, but they are not wealthy and were only able to help so much. My 2015 tax refund saved me from eviction in March, and a couple of very generous online friends saved me from eviction in June. The GoFundMe page doggio started got me through July, August, September, and, for the most part, October. A little more help from my family closed the gap.

But that well has dried up. I cannot expect my internet friends to support me forever, and I’ve learned that even if the hearing goes well (my lawyer is no longer as sure as he was), the judge still has to make a decision, which could take a month or more, and then they have to process the paperwork, which is another month or two or more, before I get my money.

Long Island is an expensive place to live. Even the most affordable rent would eat up more than 75% of my SSDI income. So the family had a video conference call Sunday morning. They gave me two options, accept their help, which includes following their instructions, or go it alone which would inevitably lead to me being homeless, for a time at least, and possibly in subsidized housing long term - and around here, those places are in crappy neighborhoods.

Family’s solution is to move off Long Island ASAP. To that end, lawyer nephew and lawyer niece-in-law will meet me in a Hudson Valley community for a weekend this month to tour apartments. Their projected move date is November 1st. They will pay for the packing and moving of my stuff, but I have to make a determination of which of my stuff I can do without. Stuff that will be junked or donated.

I have been nauseated for several days over this. And frozen with reluctance.

Not incidentally, a few months back, Fluffy and a good mutual friend paid for my admission to a Doctor Who Con on Long Island scheduled for the second weekend of November. The target community is three to four hours away without the inevitable traffic and construction delays. Fluffy still wants me to go, says she’ll cover my gas and tolls. I haven’t spoken to mutual friend about it yet. But in all honestly, I cannot possibly fathom taking that trip a week after such a major relocation.

My life is once again in a major unwanted upheaval. I might be able to convince Family to hold off until December 1st if I had a sudden influx of five or six thousand dollars, but I don’t see that happening. Those who have already donated have been wonderfully generous. I cannot, in good conscious, ask for more from them. The ones who have thrown in only a few dollars obviously have their own financial imitations, and I cannot burden them any further.

I am grumpy and sick and very very sad. And now having typed all that out, I am crying.

There are weird dreams and then there are weird dreams. Last night, Dr. Oz was hitting on me. Dunno where that came from but I hope it never comes back. ick.

I didn’t watch the “debate” and what little I saw on the morning news seemed stupid. I just keep hoping Trump will be abducted by aliens and returned to his home planet. Seriously.

**Sunny **- per your offer in the last MMP - thanks, but after I flip thru my pile of photos, I’m going to toss the bagful. Especially since I was alone in Paris, so there aren’t even any pics of me - just random places I visited. Like I said, I haven’t even opened the bag in 33 years.

Being Columbus day, there was virtually no traffic this morning. That was nice. And that means going home will be nice. I have to stop at the thrift store to drop off all my donations. We ended up getting rid of just about everything in that part of the basement. We have 2 aquariums (aquaria??) to get rid of, but I’m going to sell those. Plus there’s a box of high-wattage incandescent light bulbs that I don’t want to just toss, but I won’t use them. I’ll put an ad on the local website and see if someone wants to come get them.

My best friend from high school messaged me yesterday - she wants me to make a candy dish for her sister with sis’s anniversary date on it. I told her it won’t be before Thanksgiving, but she’s OK with that. So it’s time to start a new kiln load of stuff.

And so it comes to: Happy Moanday!!

How mobile are you? I mean, do you have orders not to be on your foot at all or are you allowed to walk/hobble short distances, i.e., further than the bathroom?

The last time I knew I was going to be laid up I went to Michaels and picked out a few no-rush-to-finish type of crafts I could do while lounging on the couch with the TV on. I rediscovered my love for cross-stitch samplers one of those times. Another time I retaught myself embroidery stitches. The last time I was laid up I got a skein of yarn and tried finger knitting via You Tube.

Other than that, echoing catching up on your reading and watching Netflix.

2 weeks? Gordie and I would both go insane. I suggest Netflix and Youtube marathons.

{{{{{rosie}}}}}

{{{rosie}}} so sorry for all your woes. Here’s hopin’ you can get back to Lawn Guylandt where your heart is soonest. Life is really truly suckin’ aigs for you right now.

Two MMPs? There is a great disturbance in the force. Merged.

What’s this “Go” shit, Kemosabe?

{{{Rosie}}}

Robyn, two weeks of enforced stay-at-home-ness sounds kind of heavenly to me. Get all the books and make sure you don’t have to reach too far for the remote.

This weekend was lots of wedding-crafting and running around, with a little bit of napping and reading thrown in. We’re down to crunch-time, so this week is going to get crazy. Roomie’s brother texted her on Saturday and asked if it was okay if he, Mom, and girlfriend showed up sometime after midnight Tuesday, instead of daytime Wednesday. To which Roomie politely (but firmly) replied hell no, we have to work on Wednesday and would not appreciate being woken up in the middle of the night. So they have revised their driving estimates. The wedding’s not until Saturday. Showing up three days early is kind of borderline-rude enough, if you ask me.

{{{Rosie}}}. Perhaps it will work out for the best. I thought losing my schoolteaching job and spending a summer cooped up in a half-furnished apartment waiting for the phone to ring for an interview (which didn’t come) was about as low as I got…but in the end, things worked out, and maybe this relocation will bring about changes you haven’t expected. Give it a chance.

And go to the con if you can. You’ll need the stress relief.

Rockin’, being of the retired set, I have months to kill, so spend a lot of it here on the SDMB, doing some reading, watch movies, and time will move along.

FCM, Dr. Oz? You (and your dreams can do better than that…<grin>

Sitting around waiting for delivery of my new dishwasher, got a call last night that they will be here between 0900 and 1300 (0850 as I type this). So just had two BLT’s for Break-Fast and will browse and read until the delivery folks show.

Now, do I replace (my still perfectly functional) dryer just to complete the trifecta, or leave well enough alone?

{{rosie}}

Rockin’ my suggestions are either catch up on some movies or go insane. Or both!

We didn’t get any of the hurricane rain up here in the High Country, but we did get the winds yesterday. 99% of the pinecones are now off the trees and in the driveway, along with most of the leaves. So much for Leaf Season! Stay home Floridians! I heard a tree fall sometime in the middle of the night (fortunately not near the house). My neighbor down in Pirateville says they got flooded and it looks like my sisters in the Triangle got some of that too.

This is why I live in the mountains, kids.

In honor of the wind yesterday I present today’s Lio comic. It looked like something y’all would appreciate.

Some flooding, former neighbor said. Some.

As I said, so glad I moved uphill.

Happy Moonday!

It’s a sunny 48 degrees outside, going up to 63 today.

I forgot today is a holiday, so we put the trash out last night, where it will sit until tomorrow. I swear I thought I heard the trash men come through. I don’t know what else makes that much noise.

{{{Rosie}}} I’m sorry for what you are going through. BTDT and it is something I never talk about.

Rockin’ No idea what I’d do. At least there is the internet, it could be much worse

Today’s irritation will be filling out the FAFSA. Maybe wash some windows
First, I need to get some breakfast, and take my pills, and check my list of things to do.
