A half century gone. A very early MMP

Yeah, fat chance that’s gonna happen.

In fact…

Hi kiddies, I can only stay a minute. I’m using Hubby’s 'puter, mine is in the hospital. It’s going to cost $773 to get it out!

I haven’t had a chance to read the thread, so I hope everyone is well and happy, or will be soon.

I’ll be back on Thursday next.

Stoopit internal clock. I woke up around 4:30 for no apparent reason. I should be exhausted - I was up till 11-ish, which is way late for me. I tried to go back to sleep, and finally gave up about 5:30. My toofies have been brushed, the doggies have been out, and critters have been fed. **FCD **is still sleeping (lucky duck) and with the kids away, the house is quiet.

Part of the reason I can’t sleep is the impending come-to-Jesus meeting I’m going to have with SIL. I have tried to be patient, hoping he’d start learning, but it appears I need to apply a clue-by-four, or at least a serious conversation. When we got back from our eye appointment and dinner last night, I decided I’d put a coat of paint on the doors that are in the garage - where SIL was working earlier. I found our best paintbrush covered in paint, just sitting there, a plastic bag pulled loosely over a tray of paint, and an unemptied tray liner with primer in it, just sitting in the middle of the floor.

Lucky for his ass, I was able to save the paintbrush - the paint hadn’t set yet. And because it was cool out, the lightly-wrapped paint tray was OK, too. So I put another coat on the doors, wrapped the roller, and quit for the night. Anyway, this is fairly typical of him - he doesn’t finish anything! He and daughter put down the plastic and the foam underlayment for their living room floor. They dumped all the scraps in a pile in the nook. Later, daughter went to clean up the mess they’d left in the nook. He never left his chair. And after I fed the dogs this morning, I decided to finish loading the dishwasher. On the counter, I found a couple of pieces of cereal - another trick of his - he won’t clean up after making food. I find crumbs, particles, and even dried-on ice cream after he’s been in there. I’ve mentioned it before, but this time, it’s serious.

The boy is pissing me off. And I’m beginning to wonder if he’s doing the same to my baby. I’ve noticed a certain amount of snark directed from her to him. I don’t need this drama. So next time I see him, which probably won’t be till Tuesday, we’re going to talk. I wish she’d waited before getting married…

Ok, just got this recipe in an email from my Mom. I’m afraid to make it because it looks so easy I will need to make it several times a day.

MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

1 Coffee Mug
4 tablespoons flour(that’s plain flour, not self-rising)
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
some nuts (optional)
Small splash of vanilla

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla, and mix again. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes on high. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if
desired. EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to share!)

Just looking at this and thinking, a scoop of ice cream and chocolate syrup would be good on this.

My stomach is unhappy this morning. Not sure if I’ll make it to water aerobics.:frowning:

Sorry about the SIL stress, FCM. I hope the come-to-Jesus meeting takes. Does it help to remember that you’re giving him a whole new upbringing? I hope it’s not too late for him to change his habits.

Hope you feel better, Pie.

I’ve seen that recipe before, Flower. (Maybe someone posted it before we had the blog?) I’ve added it to the blog.

Awake. Don’t really want to be, but here I am. I have lots to do this weekend, so I guess I’ll just get moving.

Happy Saturday!!!

GT

So much to say…where to start?

Lili it’s always hard to marry into a difficult family. Ugh. I hope he does what’s best for him and leaves her. It sounds like he could make a strong case for custody of the kids.

It sounds like your SIL is 18 FCM, not 30. I hope laying down the law works!

Congrats on post 6,000, MBG

Cake looks awesome, Flowers. It would make a cute Holiday present, I think. Kind of like those mason jar recipes that have been popular.

I think I saw Haze the other night in the vice presidential debate thread. That thread was harder to keep up with than that MMP!

Feel better, Pie

Good luck with the apartment, Nava. :: Lights some candles ::

Whew. I think that’s about everything. If I forgot something, I’m sorry! ooo Must hurry if I’m going to get dressed to make the 9:30 bus to shopping.

aw crap - now I can’t use the excuse of “I don’t bake because a whole (cake, batch of cookies, whatever) is too tempting to have around the house”

Thanks, guys.

I made it to water aerobics, but I was kind of nauseous. Just ate some breakfast, hopefully that will help.

Glad you made it to aerobics, Pie. Hope you feel better.

Okay, the best-ish thing that could have happened has happened- BiL checked himself into the hospital last night. So he’ll be getting some help, and the hospital is specifically not letting his wife near him. We’ll see how it goes. Sigh.
We went out for dinner with some friends, and then came home and had cake and conversation. And wine. Lots of wine. It was good and de-stressing.

Bumba, I am interested in soap. I’ll be emailing you.

Make the small child go to sleep so we can relax for a bit.

I spent yesterday afternoon cleaning trojans off my computer.

Zeldadog is home and well. She spent her time at the vet in a cage. :frowning: Now she’s barking in the back yard.

Blargh. It was supposed to be sunny today. But nooo… it’s cold and grey and gross instead. A good day to stay home curled up with a book and a couple of cats, but I agreed to play tour guide for part of the afternoon, so I’ll have to venture outside after all. Dang.

Off I go to eat some crepes and wander around the shoe museum.

Sending lots of feel-better-soon thoughts in the direction of Pie and LiLi’s BIL and poor ZeldaDog.

Sounds like a reasonably good outcome for BIL, LiLi.

Glad you made it to aerobics, Pie. Feel better.

mousie, did you see my response? Just making sure…

I’ve sent my White Elephant. Yay!

And discovered that the convenience store that closed a few months back is going to be a carry-out. As long as they carry milk, I’ll be happy. (Yes, the grocery store is an entire block and 1/2 farther away. Sometimes that’s way too far.) A decent beer selection would be good, too, as the grocery’s has gone downhill lately.

Off to clean some more. (I’m making progress…yay!!!)

Back later.

GT

I thought all you were upposed to do was flush them, really I think tossing them on your computer is a bit un-hygenic, no?

I so busy, me no should be chatting here. Must be off to gym to sweat and grunt like man, clean up, then go buy beer for later in the day manly beerish celebration.

Ugh.

I’ve never tried making anything from a recipe I saw here. Me & recipes don’t co-exist in the same dimension. I don’t bake, and anything else I make, I tend to more or less freewheel my way through. I have simple tastes which helps that. For example, my favorite breakfast recipe:

Ingredients:

Honey Nut Cheerios - enough to fit in my big red bowl
Milk- to cover
Spoon
newspaper or magazine
Pour Honey Nut Cheerios into bowl. Cover with milk. Utilize spoon to consume yumminess while reading. When finished, observe Marty waiting for his treat.

He-man off to gym now now. Ugh.

You realize, of course, that I was obligated to put that recipe in the blog?

Good morning my lovelies!

I’m sorry to read that the troubles with SiL have not subsided, FCM. If he isn’t helping out now, what happens when he and your daughter are truly on their own. If your daugther is anything like I was then, she’s become EXTREEEEEMELY PISSED and resentful. That’s not good for any marriage. Anyway, I hope the application of the clue-by-four works. We’ll all stand behind you with ours, if need be.

LiLi, I’m glad your BiL is getting help.

Congrats on the 6,000th post MBG. I’ve got a long way to go before I hit that…I think. I dunno, I never look.

Well, back to cleaning for tonight’s shindig. I need a housecleaning fairy…

Of course he knew that, gt, he was counting on it so he doesn’t forget how to make his breakfast. It’s a man thing, we wouldn’t understand… grunt, indeed.

Good luck to your bro, LiLi, and if some unfortunate yet tragic accident occurs to SIL I will be sure to repress a sniffle–proprieties must be observed, don’tcha know. Good grief, though, what a whirling bitch!

I miss Haze too… Sure wish she’d get feeling better and come back!

Flower, that Cup Cake is teh EEvil, and you just added a whole buncha time to your stay in purgatory for waving it in front of our faces and removing our convenient excuses. wags finger, inventories pantry EEEEVIL, I tell you!

I don’t have a CDL, Taters, I had my B permit with airbrake, tanker and hazmat endorsements but do you have any idea how hard it is to find a truck to take the test in if you aren’t working for a trucking company? My buddy had a propane tanker truck right around then but he sold it for a tidy sum before I could snag it for the day. I can drive up to 26’ box trucks, though, up to the maximum weight–used to be a materials handler for a local manufacturer. I’m thinking of going for my A license, though, because truck drivers never starve but I really don’t want to do OTR because I like my own bed…

Good luck with the SIL, FCM, he sounds like a royal pain in the ass. Is he one of those mama’s boys who never had to clean up after themselves? Or just a garden variety man-slob? Either way, he needs a grow-up-quick seminar and you sound like just the mom to give it to him! Slap that brat!

Mahna[sup]2[/sup], a shoe museum? Really? That sounds like a perfect place to go on a sleazy rainy day–we’re having one here, plus some serious winds, and a shoe museum would be just the ticket…
Stiggs kitty has decided that summer is over and he’s turned back into cuddle kitty. He’s giving my laptop the stinkeye, trying to figure out how he’s going to manage to displace it and claim my lap for himself. Nice try, cat, curl up next to me! Oh, now he’s offended and yowling to go out and I just let him in two minutes ago! Crotchety old fart… :dubious:

I wanna go sit on a beach in Mexico for six months, I’m tired of this day to day hassle… I’m extremely pissed off that Congress passed that 500 page pork barbecue-in-a-bailout to the rich, then the Senate took off and left town until November, leaving a perfectly nice unemployment benefit extension bill sitting on the floor–it passed almost unanimously in the House but died afterward because those lazy fuckers just HAVE to get home and campaign. Yeah, nice move, shitheads, ever think that maybe the 800,000 people whose benefits are due to run out this month might have something to say at the polls? Fucking rich people really piss me off…

Grrr. Men piss me off, too, right now. In fact, pretty much everything except my doggie is pissing me off. Grump…

I can’t say for certain, but I suspect he’s never had to do chores or even pick up after himself. His household consisted of his mother, his grandmother, and (up until last year) his great-grandmother. I expect between the 3 of them, the baby of the family was well-coddled and spoiled.

**FCD **and I talked at breakfast - we’re going to have a chat with both of them, a little less confrontational than I was considering, and spell out expectations, including a chore list. He’s going to be the garbage man, since he’s the only one home in the mornings and he’s the one with the van. Anyway, that’ll be the topic of conversation at dinner on Tuesday.

We’re taking a break and eating some $9 cub scout popcorn. It doesn’t taste $9 good, but it keeps little boys off the streets, so that’s good! **FCD **has been finishing the bathroom and I’ve been painting doors and door frames. The paint needs to dry before I put on the next coat. WIth luck, we’ll be able to hang the doors tomorrow. Then we’ll head to Baltimore to take my mom out to lunch.

That one cup cake looks dangerous…

Lookie!!! Multi quote!!!

I know I cleaned up any messes I made in your house, FCM!

I suspect nobody’s ever expected SiL to do that. I am not the world’s greatest housekeeper, but by Og I clean up the kitchen after I cook something! And I keep the bathroom basically sanitary, though bathroom cleaning is my least favorite thing in the world to do.

Whoever coddled him did him no favors at all.

yawn It’s chilly and rainy and I don’t have to go anywhere. Yay! I do have to work tomorrow at 8, but that isn’t so bad; Sundays are usually really slow, and I’ll get out earlier than usual, which is fine by me.
