Howdy all.
Thanks for the support about MIL - she really is a huge PITA sometimes!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. I survived the commute to work without incident even.
It’s my next to last telecommute day at least for a while.
Hope all the doggies are feelin’ better today!
Ok, need some more caffiene and then to the workpile.
Later Y’all!
You poor baby. Now you’ll have to deal with the real world once again.
I’m not jealous.
Blurf. I need to forage NOW, but the designated grounds don’t open for another half hour. Harumph.
Neighbor Sarah had good sugar levels yesterday, so I wasn’t called. They were surprised by the care package I took them, which included 2 bottles of glucose tablets, hideously expensive at $1.25 each. Fred also got a box of cane tips, which he needed desperately. He had been working with a nickel duct-taped to the bottom of his cane, and then bitching when his cane slid. :smack:
VWife brought home a foster Boxer yesterday, ostensibly for 1-2 week stay to fatten up and recuperate from some mysterious injuries. :grumble: Our working name for her is Velcro, because she sticks to the human of choice like that product.
Kaiwik, I’m not ignoring you.
Everone else, carry on.
Off to work. They keep playing my song at work.
Afternoon, Mumpers! It must be the week for pet injuries, I had to take Shadow to the vet on Saturday after we found an abcess on his shoulder in exactly the same place he’s had two already this year (both of which we didn’t spot in time and ended up infected resulting in two lots of stitches).
Luckily we were in good time and the vet said he’ll survive with a week of anti-biotics and the wound should heal by itself. So the little boy’s been under house arrest all week, he’s had butter-coated pills thrust down his throat twice a day and his wound has been bathed with salt water. He’s grumbling about the lack of pigeon-chasing opportunities but otherwise he seems to be healing up pretty well.
In other news, my cellphone is broken. Well, the phone itself isn’t broken but the bit where the charger plugs in is damaged somehow and the charger won’t sit properly. Consequently, phonee no chargee. In fact, phonee quite deadee. I’m using my old cellphone which isn’t as good as this one, in fact I’ve pretty much forgotten how the old one works. I am taking mine to the fixer on Saturday but if he can’t do anything with it, I’ll have to buy a new one.
Yay! Shopping!
I’m not invited.
Pit Bulls are a dog where I’m more concerned about the owner than the pup. A bad owner makes a bad pit bull. They require a lot of work, which I know I can’t give them. I like playing with them though. Not many dogs can be swung around the room by their teeth on a rope toy.
Bobbio, you’re a good neighbor. But you knew that already.
Love the hair, rigs! at the MIL Dotty. Hi to everybody else.
Today is the day the dryer gets fixed. It’s also the day of the night that there will be many Adult Beverages imbibed. After yesterday, we all need a drink in the Casa de Spaz y Roommmates. Also, because my financial aid finally arrived in my bank account.
Zelda’s doing fine today. She goes back to the vet this afternoon for her annual checkup and shots.
Ah yes, forgot to mention that I, too, want Bobbio to be my neighbor. Go Bobbio!
Off to work.
Firday?
GT, Spaz: y’all can shut up any time now. I have a bad boy reputation to uphold…
Good morning!
It looks like it’s gonna be a slow day, unless I can scrounge up some work.
I took some chicken boobs out to thaw for dinner. I’m going to marinate them in a yogurt-based lemony marinade, then grill them. Some will be saved for fajita quesadillas for later in the week, but tonight I will serve them with steamed broccoli and corn souffle. Yum!
Awww… hope all the Mumper pups feel better soon. Glad you caught the abcess in time, BooFae.
I’m at work, caffeinating, (mostly) awake and trying to figure out what I can do to look busy for the rest of the day. There’s only so many vintage patterns a girl can look at before she starts to wish she had a report or two to run, ya know. ![]()
Ooooh… we’ve been gifted with gay midget porn! Quick, there’s still time to post some snark before it disappears!
Caught up. Promise. Just too lazy to answer to everybody, after that Process Diagram overdose.
Almost done with that, all that’s left now is wrapping up some code so it can pass Quality (1) and then pushing it through the non-techies side of the client. 1: why do IT people call “Quality Control” something which basically consists of making sure you’ve filled every field in the form? It doesn’t matter whether the stuff in the fields makes any sense, so long as field <> empty. Coming from the lab side of QC, this always leaves me somewhere between
,, :dubious: and . We need composite smileys, or at least I do.
I hope the pets and monsters (DotMIL, I’m looking at you) situations get better.
I saw a flat today which is OK, although it does have carpet (my six-month lease lasts until this month, included). Only in the bedrooms, but still. I’m convinced that one of the reasons my allergy has a field day any time I’m in Scotland is the damn carpets; it flares up when I’m in carpeted Spanish hotels too. Cdogged dozez zuck. Hadd.
Got two more flats to see today, one is non-carpeted, the other one didn’t mention the kind of floor in the ad and didn’t have pics but it’s a nice size, price and location. Got another one tomorrow and one on Friday. Got a letter from my client promising that they know me and so far I haven’t burnt down their home office or anything, too. So hopefully I’ll be moving into a non-carpeted place within this month!
Poor MMP pups! Hope they’re both doing better today.
There’s a pit bull in our neighborhood (a group of townhouses that’s supposed to have a 75 lb limit on pets) and a German shepherd. The pit bull seems well behaved (Our cat started to chase it down the sidewalk the other day, and, although it looked curious about the cat that was trying to follow it, it didn’t do anything and walked away when the owner tugged on its leash.) but shepherd’s starting to make me nervous. It’s still young - under a year - but it’s full size, and it wants to chase people and it’s getting big enough that it’s pretty large male owner is having trouble keeping it under control. It growled at me the other day and started pulling. It also wants to chase me when I’m riding my bike. I don’t know what it would do if it got away from its owner, but I’m a little bit uncomfortable about such a large dog that seems threatening.
Good luck finding a new place, Nava. And post pics when you get one!
It also seems like parents and in-laws need to remember to pick your battles. Of course if the kids are in danger they should step in. Or if mom & dad are waaaaaay off base in what they’re doing, maybe their parents should step in. (Although off-base parents probably have off-base parents themselves so it might not be much help.) But if you just don’t like the color of the dress that you daughter-in-law put the baby in, seriously, MYOdamnB.
Urgh. I washed my hair today after running. It seems to have washed most of the “permanent” color out. I am grrr about this. But I have been using this blonde shampoo, so perhaps that’s it? I rinsed all that out, though, and used the deep conditioner the hair color came with.
Anyway, some of the brass is back. I am not happy.
Here’s a pic (of me not happy):
I also look like I’m dead-- no makeup, folks!
Sorry about the cell phone, BooFae. I didn’t know they fixed stuff like that anymore–it seems we just discard and move these days.
Smartie–thanks, and I agree with you. I hope I am learning what NOT to do. Kinda sad that there are so many of those role models around and not the other ones…
Rigs, FWIW, I think you are Teh Cute in this pic! Maybe it’s the fact that’s it’s truly natural… I generally tend not to like all made-up and dolled up dos.
Anyway… :wolf whistle: ![]()
**Spaz **--
But glad you’re financial aid finally came through!
Good luck finding a nice, non-carpeted apartment, Nava.
I’m near the end of two days of utter laziness (well, almost utter – I got an hour+ of gym and some work at home done today.)
Going back to the salt mines tomorrow morning is going to be painful!
Cool new trick (at least in FireFox) – pressing Ctrl+B while in the composition window puts in a pair of [ B ][ /B ] brackets (without the spaces of course.) Similarly for Ctrl+I and Ctrl+U for Italics and Undelining ![]()
rigs, I still like the colour, and I’d forgotten how amazing your eye colour is. So blue. I’m jealous.
<blushes> Ta.
Don’t be jealous–you’re cute as hell yourself (even if you wear striped socks with Mary Janes…)

Nava, I’m surprised that non-carpeted flats seem to be so rare… why anyone would want a carpet that needs to be constantly vaccuumed and that sucks up all the hair/dust/critters/smells/grossness? Give me hardwood floors anyday!
rigs, the colour still looks pretty awesome to me (and you do look generally fabulous as a whole, might I add). I’d suggest swapping your shampoo to one of them specially formulated for dye-jobs dealies, though… it should help the rest of the colour stay put.
Nooner, I’m glad you finally got some downtime. You deserve it! There’s more time off next week for Yom Kippur, yes?
OK, time for N.O.L. Off I go to find something edible and non-fattening… though I might just settle for one out of two.
Rigs, it’s not unusual for red color to wash out quite a bit–apparently too-hot water is one of the culprits. I don’t wash my hair the day after I color and use cool water to rinse the first couple days and that seems to set the color a lot better. I like the color afterward, though, it has more blondie highlights, maybe because your curls are out! As for bad role models in the world, it’s Sturgeon’s Law in action–90% of everything is shit. Therefore it’s up to us cool moms to redress the karmic balance of the universe!
I don’t think I can completely agree about the bad owner/bad dog scenario when it comes to pits, Spaz. I’ve known many pits who have great owners, very conscientious (including DIL–aside from letting the dog get on the furniture!) but the dogs are just prone to sudden flipouts and they don’t have good bite calibration at all. When Widget and Callie play, they make terrible noises but almost never is there a pain squeal and if there is the other dog backs off immediately. Paige (the pit) attacked out of nowhere and she was NOT backing off in spite of Widget being completely submissive and crying–that ain’t normal. Whenever I hear of a dog biting the crap out of a kid and the owners are all “but the dog was so sweet with the kids, never had a problem, I don’t know what happened!” I bet myself it’s a pit bull and I’m seldom wrong. Their heads just aren’t wired right and when they lose it they kill something. When most other dogs lose it somebody gets bitten, but those gripping dogs won’t let go until you saw their heads off. All I have to say is that if she ever bites a person I’ll shoot her myself–that aggression is NOT okay!
Widget seems to be okay this morning, he stopped bleeding last night although we kept having to interrupt his grooming schedule–you can be less than fancy for once, dog! The bite is a longish triangular flap, not a puncture, so it should heal quickly if we can keep him from reopening it again.
Taxi, that shepherd needs some serious obedience work–herding dogs can be intimidating because of the way they chase and they can be nippy. Since GSDs are so darned big it’s even more important they be well behaved and socialized than most–nobody takes a corgi nip seriously, but from a 100 lb shepherd it’s a little different.
Give Shadow a scritch for me, BooFae!
Yeah, it really is the size that’s a problem. Aside from those two dogs, all the other dogs in the neighborhood are tiny little toy things, a lot of min pins and chihuahuas. If it really becomes a problem, I suppose we can go to the board and complain about the GS since it’s over the 75 lb limit (I assume), but they live in the same building as we do, and I don’t want to start a neighborhood war. Right now it’s a pretty laid-back community, and I don’t want it to become the kind of place where every rule is enforced to the letter of the law. We’ve got some things on our patio that skirt the rules, and I don’t want it to become so strict that we can’t have anything non-conforming on our patio.
