A Hateful Curse On BP

Somebody spilled MPSIMS all over my beautiful Pit. I fix.

I know a lot of people are probably going “AHA!” when they hear Halliburton’s name attached to this, but determining ultimate responsibility will involve much more than simply saying they did a crappy cement job. There are numerous service companies operating on a given drilling project, and all the engineering of the well, including the design of the cementing program, is a cooperative act between the primary operator (in this case BP) and the companies that provide specialized services. While Halliburton undoubtedly helped design the cementing program, I guarantee the program was reviewed and vetted by BP personnel.

I’ll just mention that some of the other service companies involved with the operation in question (including a different Halliburton subsidiary) could potentially share some responsibility for the blowout, but I’d rather wait for the results of the investigation that will surely take place before jumping the gun on blame. What I will say for now is that it was BP’s well, and therefore they own the consequences.

Not that Rand and I are best buds, but he pretty clearly states that the oil spill is bad. In your quote.

That’s true, and tone is difficult to detect on the internet, but I just got a distinctly cavalier vibe from the phrasing, particularly the “what else you got” part. Perhaps he can clarify.

Bubble Bubble Toil And Trouble!

Fuck You BP!

YourS Truly!

You Fucked Up Our Gulf, Cursey-Poo Curse ON YOU!!!

FUCK BP

I’m fairly amazed that if you were going to move this at all, that you moved it to MPSIMS instead of GD.

That is all.

There’s already a pit thread about the spill:

I’m waiting to see how th Palins of the world figure out how to blame the spill on Obama and/or Big Government.

You know what other country had oil spills?

Oh, the mile of water is easy. Drilling all that rock, once you get to seabed, that’s the hard part.

El Kabong,
Looking forward to your informed posts as this develops. I know it’s complex, and, rather than lay big ol’ Blame, we should try to understand what’s happened and learn from it.

Tell you what I’m gonna do. There was a second Pit thread that actually began with a rant. I’ve merged the two threads and left the result in the Pit.

The first thread was called Drill, Baby, Drill!, and it begins at post #1. The second thread was called **A Hateful Curse On BP **. It contained two posts, the first of which was post #25. The other post from that thread is post #27.

OK Fine

I’d venture to guess it’s along the lines of what what’s-his-face, the pit police guy would say. Too obvious a thing to pit. Too easy a target. Like pitting cancer or people that chew with their mouth open.

I have to admit, my first thought was “ecoterrorists.” The timing is just so . . . just so. You know?

El Kabong - is it possible that this may have been a purposeful bombing of some sort? Or is the failure so deep and/or structure specific that it would have had to be built in - i.e. no way to choose exactly when it would blow?

I just thought the OP was a bit devoid of substance, is all.

The slogan for those who focus on the first mile: Krill, baby, krill!

Next time you disagree with a thread move, please contact a moderator or start a thread in ATMB. Starting look-alike threads like this one Drill, Baby,Drill! makes more work for us. No warning issued.

Not really. What is it just so… for?

Seriously? Do you think terrorists have submarines with weapons parked offshore the U.S.? Or that they just rented a dinghy and sailed up to the rig and lobbed a huge bomb on it without anyone seeing them? The rig is 50 miles from land.

Al Queda frogmen. From the shore.
