(Old) A high seas MMP

Just finished a 1 mile walk around the Promenade Deck. It’s overcast and chilly. I see the edge of the earth - hope we don’t sail over!

Happy Moanday!

Wow. I coulda started the MMP; I’ve been Doping over an hour already. Ah well, leave it to Moom to start us out right on a Monday.

Nawt new here. Slept in until 0500 and been caffinatin’ and balconatin’ ever since. It’s well into twilight now but was dead dark when I got out here. Venus doin’ a great job of lookin’ all purdy up there; so unlike the reality of the hellhole it is. Day looks to be bright and sunny at first, and eventually a shower or two.

My big mission for the day is to drop off my car at the shop for a periodic service. Ought to be done by dinner time, or at worst tomorrow. Thinking to uber from the shop to a local First Watch for lazy multi-course breakfast. Thence home and, weather permitting, another bike to beach & long walk. Thence ???

Good Moanday to all, and especially to the non-RDOS members of our little club.

I thought about starting it when I woke as it was past midnight Eastern time, but I waited till 11-ish here, 6-ish there. Didn’t want to be too pushy.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and mostly sunny. This calls for some quality cee-mint pond time. TWPTB predict rain for several days beginnin’ tomorrow. Sup will be chikin enchiladas, refried beans and rice. Fartfest to follow.

MOOOOOM do try not to fall off the planet.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Good morning all! We are meeting BBBoo for lunch today! We are really looking forward to it.

It’s a sunny 64F this morning, with lower humidity. Maybe some rain later. Up at 0600 this morning, as Sadie wanted scritches. She’s back to sleeping with us and staying out from under the bed all day. I think she was traumatized by the maintenance work. She’s now basking in a sunlit window.

The wife had her MRI (with contrast) on Saturday, which was like being tortured for a half hour. We got the results, which are written in doctor-speak so we can’t understand them, so will have to wait until her doc deciphers them and passes the information along. She’s still having dizziness, which has been flaring up the last few days.

No big plans this week, though we may go on an outing to a local restaurant. I may make baklava at some point, as I’ve been obsessing about it. I’ve made it before, which makes things easier. It’s not difficult, but is time consuming.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 18c/64f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Be glad the weather isn’t the fucking same as social media. It it was, we’d have fucking six feet of bullshit blowing everywhere.” Fair enough - my social media is full of great photos and postings from friends and bands about what a great weekend we had.

We were up reasonably early today, went for breakfast with our friends, packed our stuff, said goodbye to everyone and headed home. The drive back wasn’t too bad, the motorways weren’t too busy so we were home in a couple of hours.

I’m unpacked, the cats have been seen and fussed, litter trays are emptied and I’ve paid the catsitters. After a cuppa, I’ll go off to the supermarket and get some stuff for this week, then that will be my outside stuff done until I have to think about emptying bins and hauling the right bin out to the kerb later.

The tyre pressure warning light is on in the car, that appeared just as we were leaving Oldham but I know it doesn’t need attention immediately (and such things should be done when the tyres are cold). I need to take 'im indoors to the station in the morning so I could do the tyres on the way back, but also may need to go to the pet store as well, so I could also do that job on the way there. And of course, there’s always laundry to do!

Car’s dropped off and I’m re-caffinatin’ before orderin’ some breakfast from these fine folks.

I can tell it’s summer because I’m the only person sitting outside in the nice shade and warm breeze while all the windows look like it’s raining from all the condensation running down the outside because this place keeps their store interior at refrigerator temps. The exterior of the glass is positively cold to the touch. I can’t imagine how cold the interior surface feels.

Meanwhile GF is on the fast train home from Orlando. Yaay! We’ll have dinner Wed night, but probably not a low rent rendezvous after; she’s supposed to train back to Mom’s Thu morning early.

Y’all might recall my ongoing sagas a couple years ago of making not-coffee. My newer, larger pot that I got last year when I moved here eliminates most, not all, ways to do that. Today I found yet a different way to have morning coffee vexation.

I’m up at 5am. It’s dead dark outside. I turn on just the microwave overhead light to make coffee; I like the feeling of keeping as much dark intact as possible. Anyhow coffee is made, cup heated, coffee poured, cream added, etc. without incident. The handle of this one cup tends to get real hot in the microwave (?), so I need to grip it with a dish towel to carry it my balconatin’ spot. So far so ordinary.

About halfway there, the cup handle slips in the towel, tips forward, and pours maybe 25% of the cupful of creamy coffee onto the fake marble tile floor. Damn. At least I didn’t step in it too. Grab some paper towels and in the dim light wipe up the obvious solid ~8"x12" puddle. Then go balconate for awhile.

Finally sun’s up and it’s time to go inside. By now the apartment is brightly lit.

O.M.G.

The splatter pattern from that spill is nigh wall-to-wall. And up one wall. And on 2 pieces of white furniture. With a neat little clean area right at ground zero where I’d paper-toweled up the puddle. I’m not sure an axe murder would’ve left a larger splatter pattern. Large spots, small spots, itty bitty spots. All made of tan now-dried coffee/cream and all pointing right back at the scene of the crime.

Cue 30 minute departure delay for cleanup. I don’t own a mop, so it’s all paper towels kneeling on the tile floor. Knees were … unimpressed.

And now you know …
The rest of the story. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth: :man_facepalming:

Morning all. Slept pretty well and have done some of the morning internetting, so trying to get back to normal this week (whatever normal is). 82F already but only due to get to 93F, so not too bad (for certain levels of bad). Was supposed to go have dinner and a meeting with other Soccer board members today, but that has apparently been cancelled, so something else will have to substitute for dining this evening. Not much on the agenda for the week, may do some car shopping (need to test-drive a Hyundai Palisade) and mowage is probably due later this week.

FCM, they had a walk/jog track laid out on my ship too…I found I did more than enough walking just getting from my room to the other parts of the ship, and I tried to use the stairs when I had to go only 2-3 decks, so that was my exercise. And no sailing off the planet!

Pilot, there is a First Watch near me, only opened about the start of 2025 and I haven’t tried it yet, may have too one of these days. And yeah, splatter patterns have a way of surprising us in the most unpleasant ways.

Cookie, glad to hear Sadie is getting back to normal routines. And best wishes to wife-unit.

boo fae, welcome home, my car shows the actual tire pressure when it warms me I’m too low. Right now they are between 38-40psi and the light doesn’t come on until it gets to 30psi, so I’ll be ok until it gets cold again (November?).

And back to the morning internettin. have a good week all.

They’re a bit conspicuously health-conscious / trendy and so just a bit frou frou. But everything is tasty and they have a good variety. You won’t leave hungry; unlike some frou frou places the portions here are generous.

Shoe, I was sorry to see that you got cheated out of your extra shower last night. Try for at least two today to make up.

The Virgin ships I’ve been on have an extensive gym, a walking / running track, a small parcourse, a basketball half-court, and a boxing ring. For an outfit dedicated to total hedonism, they sure like their healthy. I was always surprised to see the number of people slammin’ it in the gym early in the morning or throughout the day. I suspect the folks up with me at 1am drinkin’ and dancin’ are not the same folks up at 6am working out. OTOH, their target demographic is about age 30, not 70.

Happy Monday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I have some phone chores to do today. Oy, geveldt!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Somehow, I’ve lost track of the days. I mean, I knew it was Monday, but somehow, my brain did not switch to the new MMP. With that being said, here’s what I posted this morning in the old MMP.

Good morning.

It’s 56F and clear. Another sunny day awaits, and it’ll be another hot day. Our expected high temperature is 88°F. (This was posted around 5:00 this morning; it’s a bit warmer now).

LSLGuy, my state, especially the Western side (where I live), has a very high cost of living. The cost of housing is quite inflated, and so are other essentials, including fuel and groceries. I now pay over five dollars a gallon for gas. Thank goodness I no longer have to commute and only need to fill up once every couple of weeks or three.

VanGo, hope you got the AC installed and your back is improving.

JtC, I’m glad to read that Harry is doing so much better.

Shoe, yay for a little extra in the pocket!

I need to feed the flower baskets on the front porch today and mow the lawn. That’s pretty much the extent of my plans, although I may go out in public. I have not fully decided.

Okay, time for more coffee. I wish you all comfortable temperatures and an easy day.

Morning.

I would concur that First Watch is a bit frou frou as Pilot mentions. MusicMan and I have eaten once or twice. Not locally, but north of where we live.

Today just feels weird to me. I’ve been working on spoon rings but I think I’m done with them. And I can’t decide if I’m done with them for the day or done until I get the urge to make them again in a month or so. We shall see. I’ve got my show coming up in a couple of weeks, but I won’t live or die by the sale of spoon rings. I’m going to find something else to make that is more fun/exciting.

a medical week for me.

with the change in eye surgery, i went for bloodwork this morning instead of tuesday. huh, monday must be a busy day. i haven’t ever seen this many people in the lab. it took an hour instead of the usual 15-20 minutes.

then surgery tuesday. follow-up on weds, with allergy shots after. in between will be another breakfast at the green egg cafe. what french toast will i have…

my next chance is on the 15th when i have a foot appt. followed by pcp appt. more french toast!!

after that i’m not sure when i will be in that part of centre city within the hours of operation.

happy world chocolate day!

Happy Monday! It’s sunny here, with a forecast of 86º. I have Mr. Max for an hour or two later this morning. I’ll take him for a walk unless either of us overheats. He’s a furry little guy. Even with summer grooming, he looks like a walking hassock.

Yesterday was my son’s and my brother’s birthday. On July 4th of the year my son was born, we went to watch the community fireworks. It was way too mosquito-y to be outside, so we sat in our mini-truck. Husband leaned forward and watched through the windshield. At 9+ months pregnant, I couldn’t do the same, so he said things like, “Oo! That was a big one! Green.” It was a little like listening to a ballet performance over the radio.

Hard to believe that 43 years ago, I held a brand new, wiggly 7-pound baby with shiny, dark eyes. What a blessing! Babies are the ultimate surprise package. You never know who you’re going to get. I got an excellent one. He was a handful as a toddler due to ADHD, but he was a dream as a teen: no drinking, smoking, drugs, door-slamming or yelling.

My brother, OTOH, was a risk-taker who had many misadventures as a lad. He said his epitaph should read, “It seemed like a good idea at the time.”

Good news! The Celebrex is helping my back! Last Friday, Ms. Dog and I went on an 11-mile hike!

Who was it on here who said they love crows? My daughter and her hubs are befriending a murder of them. They really ARE smart! (Crows–well, daughter and hubs, too.)

Moooom, great MMP title! How big is the promenade deck? How many trips around equal a mile? Just wondering.

swampy, splash a little of that cool pool water this way, wouldja?

Taters, you’re not kidding about the high prices here. There are houses in bad shape on the market for over $500k, and you have to offer well over the asking price to have a shot. (I’m not in the market, but a friend is.)

MetalMouse, since I missed saying, “Welcome back!” to you, welcome back! It’s nice to have you back where you belong.

Hippie, have a great lunch with Boo!

you do not want a crow enemy!

i’m glad to hear that your family is in the friend zone. there are many rewards to crow friendship.

jtc has the crow story. her neighbour harry befriended a crow and the crow saved his life!

Harry and his raven are my second corvid story.

My first one was from two homes ago, when I was doing TrapNeuterRelease on the neighborhood ferals and trapped a crow by accident. He wasn’t hurt, it was a raccoon-sized humane trap, but he was highly indignant. I let him go and he strutted out of the trap, turned around and took a good look at me and then flew into one of our trees and complained for a while.

I thought that all was good, I was the hero who released the bird from the trap, right? NOPE! I was the villain and could not walk out the back door without an umbrella for almost a year because I was constantly being harassed by all of the crows in town.

I love all corvids, but they can be real jerks at times!

Good News: The replacement part for the washing machine arrived yesterday, and the guy came over at around 6pm to install it. :tada:

Bad News: After he left I (finally) started my laundry, and when I went to move the clothes to the dryer at ~8:40pm I discovered that the washer had stopped running right after the tub filled. Again. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

I texted him immediately, and he’s coming back this evening (~5:30). I didn’t want to let my clothes soak for 21 hours, and I’d need to move them eventually anyway for the second repair, so I hand-wrung each item as best I could and put everything in the dryer. I’ll properly wash that load after the machine is fixed for real, but at least the clothes are dry and safe in the meantime.

I was pretty grumpy for a little while, but had regained my “que sera, sera” by the time I went to bed – or so I thought, but then I slept horribly: it took forever to actually fall alseep, and I woke up at least twice for no apparent reason. And my alarm went off a little earlier than usual this morning (a new hire started and I needed to get to the office early just in case his laptop, etc., wasn’t in place), so today I is tahred.

In happier news, I spent a lot of yesterday playing with Lego and I completed 3/5 of the Keith Haring Dancing Figures. :man_dancing: Also, the proposal I’m supporting got a deadline extension this morning: not ideal, because I’m really ready to be done with it, but at least now I won’t have to work tonight. I should be able to build figure 4 tonight and figure 5 tomorrow night, and bring them all to work on Wednesday.

Phew!

I heard/read about that! I can’t post pictures from work, but here’s a link to a related FB post (if it works :crossed_fingers:).

I’m jealous (of both of you)!

Tee hee. :joy:

YAY! :tada:

Almost a year?!? Man, those birds can give elephants a run for their money! LOL!

We got the wife’s results from the Holter monitor, and an English interpretation by our PCP who recommends seeing a cardiologist for further analysis. Part of that test mentioned tachycardia, which can cause the dizziness she’s been experiencing. We’re still waiting for a non-technical version of the MRI results from the PCP. Even looking up the different terms on line tells us virtually nothing.

One of our residents died on Friday. A nice guy with a wry sense of humor. An academic in profession, he was a highly regarded professor and regent at his school. I didn’t talk to him much because he had trouble hearing me, even with a hearing aid, but my wife liked him. His health has been deteriorating since we got here three years ago, but his mind was still pretty sound. So long, Dave.

Boo fae do you have a Muffin update? I haven’t seen her name mentioned lately.

Ursala Kitteh is doing her weird meow that usually means an extreme drop off….
