Ever since I saw Kenny on some TV special back in the late 60’s or early 70’s when he was performing his original song “Peaceful” I have been a fan. His latest (for me anyway) CD A Song For You featuring Leon Russell’s title tune, is one I can play over and over with no letup and not become the slightest bored with.
We saw him in person at a small Nashville club back in the 80’s. His guitar work is smooth and jazzy and his voice has a quality that seems to defy whatever range he’s in at the moment. One of the truly great vocalists of this age.
Do you have any Rankin stories to tell? Any favorites from his large body of work?
Thought there would be more than six people who had even heard of you enough to at least look at a thread about you. Guess there’s little comfort in the fact that being good at making music doesn’t count for much these days.
Fan #7 here – I’ve been listening since the “Silver Morning” album.
What a classic – even has the first version of “People Get Ready” I ever heard…
Kenny’s not the only “forgotten” artist that is much more talented than a lot of pop stars. I mean, why aren’t Julia Fordham or Joan Armatrading rich and famous?
Thanks, digs, for helping to acknowledge a great musician! I think Fan #2 is more like it, though.
Do you like the “Pussy Willows, Cattails…” song of his?
Also the one that has “…take a look outside, someone’s killed a cat…”?
Do you have the latest CD? I got it for my birthday last year after hearing cuts from it on the radio. His “When The Sun Comes Out” is spectacular, as is “Round Midnight.”
