Well that was easy enough. I posted an ad up on Craigslist. Here’s hoping…
Where will I find your listing on Craigslist?
Hmm, I don’t see it there but maybe it needs time. It should be in Pets-Los Angeles-San Gabriel Valley.
Should I go to the forums too?
I’ve already received two inquiries from the Craigslist ad. I emailed them all the info I had on the shelter (name, hours, address, location, directions, etc.), so here’s hoping.
Question: He was taken by the shelter on Thursday morning. They only keep animals 72 hours. Sunday morning marks 72 hours–but they’re closed Sunday. Might he get a one-day extension, and thus maybe be spared? Give the rescuers more time to act?
They might if you phone them and tell them about the Craigslist responses. Call anyway; even if they’re officially closed there’s usually someone in the building to take care of the animals.
I used to write advertisements for shelter kittens as a volunteer job. A local newspaper (the kind that exists on advertisements and needs some copy to fill the backs of advertisements) and our local shelter had a deal; we provided a weekly cute column/ad “This kitten <insert cute/heartwrenching/feel good story> seeks a home” and they’d print it. That’s why I knew that your story is really effective copy.
Is there any news yet? I’m on tenterhooks (whatever they are) about this kitten.
Good Gods, I freaking hate people who abuse animals. Is there any way to get the police involved, or some way to force those little monster’s parents to pay for the damage they inflicted on the kitten?
Even if it turns out that the kitten was put down (
), well, hopefully the kids’ parents will have to pay some sort of fine that’d help out local humane society type groups.
Good on you Ruffian, in any case.
(But finding a way to get local police involved, or to force the kids to wrestle a rabid wolverine… might still be a nice idea.)
Where do you live? I can take him in and I live in Irvine.
According to the posting on Craig’s List, the kitten is at the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter 626-962-3577.
I forgot to add - go get him and let us know if you need help covering the vet bills.
I don’t have a car so now I am calling people to try to get a ride.
Well, I have people willing to give me a ride but without the cage number, I do not know if the kitten is still there.
That’s so cool! I hope it works out!! Please keep us posted.
Seconded.
Seconded.
I’ve got to go to school. OP, check your email. I can check my mail box on my cell phone.
Craigslist and SDMB rules! The kitten has been saved!
I got this email from a responder to the Craigslist post today:
I just called the shelter to verify: Yup, he had the surgery this morning and is scheduled to be picked up by a rescue organization this Wednesday, after he’s had a little time to recover. They understandably wouldn’t pass on the name of the organization–private info and all–but I’m curious just because I want to hear about (and see pix of) his recovery, and the start of his happy new life. BTW, when I told the operator I’d posted the animal’s plight on Craigslist, she laughed and said, “No wonder!” Yeah, they’ve had a few calls about the little guy.
kimera, thank you SO much for your interest, but I didn’t get your email until I got home from work. He’s getting the right care and will be sent to a loving, approved home, and that’s what we all wanted for the little guy.
When I told the ladies in the office about the kitten getting the surgery he needed and someone had stepped up to rescue him, they actually started crying.
Whoo hoo, happy day for kitties!
I called the shelter. I need more information. I can’t take the kitty, but I can help pay the bills. get back in your thread.
GAH! so sorry, I was just on the phone 10 minutes ago with them. I am so happy to hear the kitty is saved. Please ignore my snarky-like statement above. Damn.
Hee! A friend just called me and said she’d gone by the shelter after work, determined to take him home, when she discovered he was already adopted. When she found out he was going to a rescue, she asked about adopting him from there–and found out there was a waiting list of EIGHTEEN PEOPLE to adopt him!! Hee!
Just makes me smile.
