And all those who are looking for a kitten, please consider your local animal shelter. I used to dread going there, because I was afraid I’d feel compelled to take home a dozen cats, and have nightmares about the plight of the other 99 I could not take. But I’ve been at my no-kill local shelter a few times now (most have open house on Oct, 4th, Animal Day) and I gotta say, the reality? Much better ! The average stay of a cat in my local shelter is 6 weeks; the longest a cat has stayed in that particular shelter was one year, and then the monster was taken in by a girl who volunteered at the shelter and who had sort of become accustomed to his grubby face.
Oh, and guys? Want to meet girls? Go volunteer in an cat shelter. Ninety percent of the volunteers in cat-shelters are girls.
I am so happy that this worked out; hopefully the line of folks who wanted this particular kitten found others to rescue.
I can understand that you’re not posting the name of the person who adopts him, but is there any way you can convince them to send you a photo you can post here, once he’s up to being photographed? You know the rules about kitten threads.
I typed this big reply yesterday and the hamsters ate it. It must’ve tasted really good, because every time I tried to re-post it (I’ve learned to always copy what I type to the clipboard), it got inhaled yet again, and again. Grrr.
AFAIK, nothing more has happened to the little shits beyond the tongue-lashing. I don’t see the night custodian for obvious reasons, so I haven’t had any face-to-face discussion with him about the incident. I have talked the story up with my students, who were so touched they volunteered to donate a few dollars toward his surgery. I’m going to see if they’re interested in donating to the shelter that took him in instead.
I received contact from the shelter owner yesterday, and she said she’d keep me updated. She also said she aimed to be very selective in choosing the permanent placement for the little fuzzball. Of course, whatever she shares with me I’ll pass on to you.
Correction: It’s not a shelter taking him in, but a rescue. Similar, but still quite different. Heh–the kids immediately knew what I was talking about, though, when I said he was going with a rescue organization: “Oh, like Animal Precinct!”
